Speedo drive gear

Trident team

New member
Wanted NEW a speedo drive gear [Blue 25 tooth] that is fitted into the tail housing of the gearbox and drives the speedo cable.
The used items are a little ''loose'' and tend to allow oil to pass through the ''bearing'' and into the cable assy. causing needle fluctuations.
The clearance between the shaft of the gear assy. and the bearing block is very important.
Any info. on a source for a supplier would be good.
Thanks, Geoff

Thanks for maintaining your interest in this Keith.
I did have a stroke of luck in the fact that when I asked my son Neale to have a look in his box of gearbox bits, he had one only, in great condition.
I couldn't believe my luck.
After quite a drawn out process,
where I had a new cable assy.
made, a new adapter (for the blue gear) made and a couple of trips back to the instrument repair shop
the Speedo is now back in the car and working as it should.
Believe me I have learned a lot
during this.
Maybe I should write it down for the benefit of others😕
Best regards, Geoff

Hi Geoff,
Then document things and post it on here its what the forum was set up to do!
I find it difficult to comprehend that people post on LCR facebook page which although associated with the LCR it was not set up to be the main point of contact.

Other facebook groups are not associated with the LCR.

Therefore the more diverse these groups become the more diluted the content will be.
I am led to believe the attraction of facebook is instant response and feedback from users. If more people used the LCR forum as they did in the past before facebook and especially now since it has now been upgraded and is super reliable then it too will receive instant responses.

If the forum is not used it will go the way of the magazine and disappear because that too was not getting any content from members because understandably in the modern era they preferred instant response from the facebook users.

The forum needs traffic and content from its users to be able to survive and so does the club!

The trouble is we are swimming against the tide with this, as I am one of the few still using the forum & I genuinely do think it is a better place to keep our history going, as Facebook is terrible for tracing anything posted in the past.

The main benefit of Facebook is that it has a far bigger audience than our Forum & therefore draws in all of the original owners of these cars and their stories which are endlessly fascinating and throw up all sorts of useful info that you would otherwise not get. I know we have a 'where is it now' category but hardly gets used these days.

Also uploading pics defeats a lot of users of the forum & FB is just a simple cut / paste operation. Pics are everyone's favourite to illustrate a topic.

Personally I'll keep using the forum for the sales / changing hands of these cars, as it's good for reference on that aspect.

There is room for both, but it's hard to see the forum getting much more use against the competition.

I certainly agree with everything Keith says about the forum.
I have been using it since almost day one and despite several people trying to explain how to put up pictures, this has always defeated me.
Another thing I find frustrating is the lack of responses to certain posts, not only my own, but other people's too.
You post what you think is interesting or ask what other people think about something and then there is................silence!
I surely cannot be the only one who has experienced this!
Anyway, like Keith and a few others, I shall go on browsing the forum until the day its plug is pulled.

Will the last one out pull the plug please?

I thoroughly enjoy the LCR Forum. I find it as a great resource for learning about the details of the marque. I'm new to LC ownership so often need the guidance to sorting out an issue or investigating an issue that I'm experiencing with the car. As I'm new to ownership I also find it difficult to contribute content as I'm still 'learning'. I am willing to share what I have experienced and will offer that as topics are brought up. Thank you to Keith Halstead, and everyone else who keep this site alive, interesting, and entertaining. It's much appreciated.

Hi Keith and Michael,

Yes, agree that facebook attracts ex members and contributions from a worldwide audience but frustrated these ex members will now share on facebook and never felt it was right or contribute or share these experiences within the QB or the forum at their time of membership!
We were crying out for members contributions and the lack of these resulted sadly in the demise of the QB.

Michael, I too share your frustration in the difficulty in uploading photographs when as you say surely it can be simplified by just cutting and pasting as even I know how to do that!!

I'll get the tech team on it!!
