Would any members have any info regarding anyone using a lotus cortina Mk1 or mk2 for rallying with an 1800cc or 1850cc twin cam engine before the end of 1967,or in any motorsport event.

I admire your hopes and dreams, but I think you're gunna be stuck with a standard TC at that date! Your best option would be fuel injection?

Hi forestman, Welcome to the forum.
As Clive say's I don't think anyone went that large on capacity that early.
Are you looking for reasons of homologation?

Hi Forestman,

We did build an engine of that order circa 1970 is-h ( the little grey cell's are not so good these days, so things have to be a little.. is'h )

It began as a push rod 1500. bored to 1650 + 60th. = 1700 + 1600 stroker crank and rods, so roughly 1800. I raced it, maybe twice? in an Anglia. Sold it to a chap who as I understand it, modified the pistons & built it into a TC then raced it in a power boat.

It was something we dabbled about with, developing in odd moments !

I seem to remember also, that it was sleeved & a sleeve went into the oil gallery that passes betwixt the middle cylinders. We cured that by closing that oil way & running a pipe around the outside of the engine, feeding the oil back into the other side, it was test run dry sump at one time.

Mervyn.

i have a 701m L block with 85mm pistons and the steel crank is ground -60 what would the capacity be ? came out of a race anglia once upon a time.

I know this is a VERY old post but I remember there was a Tuning/Racing firm in Masons Avenue, Harrow who used to race Anglias with 1600cc blocks bored out to what would be 1650cc if it was a 1500 block, I think that made them 1760cc. Can't remember the but they were quite successful in racing.

In a 1500 and TC that originally has 72,75 stroke 85 mm will give 1650 cc. With a 1600 cc crank (1600 crossflow) which has 77,62 mm stroke 85 mm will give 1760 cc.

82,55 bore (original TC) with original 1500/TC stroke 72,75 will give 1558, 83,5 bore 1594cc, 85 bore 1650cc.

83,5 bore and 77,62 stroke will give 1700 cc, 85 bore 1760cc.
