Been looking in my old classic ford mags and on the interweb but cant find the info i need. Ive got a late 2000E Gearbox and i know when i brought it off my mate with a Lotus it was a close ratio box but iam unsure of the ratios.
From what ive found there seems to be 3 different types, now i remember something about rotating the input shaft round once to see how many rotations the tailshaft goes round or something like that can anyone put it in a more easy to understand term for me

Thanks Dave

There are 3 types of boxed fitted to the LC.
First the one called "uprated second", this is a deluxe box that got a different ratio on the second gear. Very rare. I do not know the ratio for the second gear, but the first is like on all deluxes and GT MkI´s 3,5:1.

Second there is the "ultraclose". You identify this one by putting it in first gear and turn the input shaft 2,5 turns and observe the output shaft to do one turn. Very nice ratios for track use, a nightmare in daily traffic because of the high ratio on the first gear.

Then we got the most common one that is called "2000E". Identify by turning input shaft 2,9 turns.
The 2000E ratio box came in all 3 types of housings, 3 rail (MkI), 3 rail but with built in remote (MkII ser 1) and single rail (MkII ser2).
The single rail gears have a slightly different cut but the same ratios, they are a little bít stronger than the three rail gears. A single rail gear set CAN be used in a 3 rail housing but some fiddling is needed to get it to fit.
