Charging problems at high revs

I fitted a new regulator and Dynamo a year ago to my mk2. All been good for 1 year but I have a new problem. Ruining and charging is fine at normal revs and with headlamps on. But at higher revs the ignition light starts to glow at around 5000rPM and goes full bright at 6000rpm. Any ideas as to potential culprits ?

I'd suggest it's your right foot.....

Seriously though I'm sure they used to make a special pulley that used to reduce the revs put through the dynamo for a twincam.

You need to check with a voltmeter remove the lead brown from the B terminal on the regulator if two join together (splitpin).
neg of volmeter to earth and pos onto the D termina leave conected pull back the cover voltage should be 14.5 t0 15.5 V at 3000 rpm and above if higher then the regulator need adjusting / checking or the dynamo will overheat and throw the solder out of the armature.
If the voltage is ok then check the blocks in the bulckhead clean with switch cleaner (not WD40 ) .
Also the ignition switch for voltdrop .between the brown and whites.

Many thanks for the useful and detailed comments.

It appears my issue was very simple and I am now a little embarrassed...

As I started down the road of detailed investigation I found that the charging output wire connection was just resting loose on the spade terminal of the dynamo. Obviously at higher revs this produced the phenomenon reported. Problem now solved.

Thanks for the contributions.
