I have recently been talking to a fellow LCR member and LC owner
He was showing me the LCR facebook page with chats and items for sale

I personally do not do Facebook and never intend to, hence I have no access

Is it just me that is anti facebook or are there other members with the same view

Is the forum getting quieter due to people using facebook instead

Ive been told there are more items for sale on the facebook page than the forum

I am 50 this year and maybe just old fashioned

Am I looking at this the wrong way ????

Regards
Rob

You're not alone Rob. I opened a Facebook account 3 or 4 years ago as it was the only way I could view pictures of The Kop Hill Climb that I'd taken part in. I flagged up a few close friends, including my sons, so I can see what they're up to but don't post anything myself so I don't get involved with anything.

It seems to me that people will say things on Facebook that they wouldn't say to a persons face. Not healthy!

No Rob - like me, you probably saw the way it's going. I was speaking to a long-term car club member at the weekend & asked him why he wasn't on the forums as much these days & he replied that he was consumed by Facebonk & it was taking up all his spare time. It's addictive.

Dave, I think that is also true of the LCR forum !

I go on facebook from time to time to keep track of family and friends who use it, but rarely post anything myself.
Having joined the LCR facebook group I see their posts but have often 'commented' on people asking for info or wanting to buy/sell something that they might get more response from the LCR forum, but maybe they just don't want to join ?

I too am a 'non facebook' person. Life is too short to spend time reading what your friends had for lunch or who got wet today because they forgot to take their umbrella to work!! I have seen grown women in tears because someone at work has decided to 'un-friend' them, that seems to be a fate worse than capital punishment. Personally, the worst aspect of it all is the presumption by friends and close relatives that because they display all their holiday snaps/travel arrangements/health issues/items for sale etc. on Facebook, that everyone knows what is going on. Give me the good old phone and email any day, "its good to talk" as the advert used to say, long live the LCR Forum.

i'm on there but not in my name.i've no interest in cat videos and what people had for dinner etc! .good for seeing whats going on in the car world and parts for sale and show reports and pics.go try it Rob,i'm 50 this year too and i managed it :)

I am the guilty party who created the LCR facebook account, so will explain my thoughts as follows.

The main reason to register an LCR FB page was to do it before anyone outside the club did. Anyone can create a FB page with little or no checking so by registering it myself it keeps control within the club. Without a small measure of control information posted on line gets out of hand.

The FB page now has 294 members albeit you do not have to be a club member to join.

Since creating the page I have only had to remove block one person and end one thread which was revealing too much information.

We live in a world of instant media and like it or loathe it we cannot ignore FB as being a medium that millions like to converse by.

It raises the profile of the LCR and generates interest which may lead to new members. I will concede that it can be at the detriment to the forum and magazine but we have to keep pace with technology. There may be a drop in forum postings but it's still there when we all want to use it.

It can't be an old fashioned thing Rob as i'm 60 later this year but admittedly spend most of my working day on a laptop.

Don't be afraid, dip your toe in now and then to FB. It's not all gloom, doom and what we had for tea.
