Guys

Took the head off HNO Saturday to get car ready or Battlesbridge
Car was using gallons of water through exhaust, so assumed simple head gasket replacement Oh no
Head is cracked in 4 places. from plug holes to valves on all 4 cylinders.

Anyone on here know a good company that will weld this up and reface
Essex London area. Or is a new head needed ?

Thanks

Rob

Hi rob,

I had to get one repaired and cost for cutting off an inlet port and welding back on together with a build up on the combustion crown when found to have a well on pressure testing.
Cost was less than £300 in including a re-test.
Let me know if interested but did take a couple of months.

I have some spare heads if you want a used one.
Cheers
Brendan

Hi Rob,

try Charlie at CTM in Dagenham. Does a great job and reasonably priced. Last time he welded a head for me it was done in a week.

Rob,
Any thoughts on why it cracked?

I recently suggested running a lower pressure rad cap but Neil thought that would cause cracking. It could be old age, timing, poor water pump /radiator clogged.

Guess cars are all getting older and pinpointing the reasons for failure would be good information for all.

One suggestion I heard for the very common cracking between plug and valve seat was the modification of heads to make bigger valve versions ?

There ain't much meat there to begin with and modification can make the area weak.

Heads been pressure tested and the tiny cracks between plug holes and exhaust valves are not seeping. It turns out the waterways have corroded in two places letting water into cylinders via the inside edge of the head gasket.
