Hi Keith,
Yes go for it, shall I get you sworn in for events organiser of the LCR Essex region?
You can be our global rep if you would prefer but that sometimes means excursions outside of E***X, could you cope?

Go for it Andy - a position I have held informally (Essex only) for 10 years...

I did vote for moving the National round the country to enable a different set of participants when we put up the poll a while ago, Is it worth reconsidering?

Hi Keith,
Anything is worth considering if it generates interest and then participation!

The only problem I can see (and believe me I personally won't mind as I will be driving to wherever the National is providing I have a car) is this, if we done say County to County IE Essex next year and Cumbria the next then it could take a number of years to come round to your county!
Obviously you would nip over the border to the next closest county to you but you can see there could be a few voices that would be annoyed!

Your thoughts!

I think we probably hit rock bottom this year in terms of numbers, so the only way is up (not Essex..) as they say.

The options are :-

- Cancel it altogether, do nothing or try something else.....

I favour the latter & could try a radius approach, say 50 miles, so we can move it about. A range of central locations could be suggested by members & the 'catchment' areas would then be drawn at random to decide the rotation for forthcoming years.

Anyone else any ideas?

I have suggested in the past that it might be worthwhile contacting other major Ford clubs with a view to holding a joint national day. The AVO club springs to mind. They have their National Day at Stanford Hall and I believe it's been held there for a number of years. It's a nice venue in a fairly central location so in terms of accessibility it would be fair to all members. Having our cars there would generate more interest for their members and vice versa. We could make a contribution towards the hire of the venue as well. Would it be something worth thinking about?

Hi Simon,

Just as an aside all the Ford clubs were sent an invite to the National.
Ask how many attended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diddly Squat :(

Hi Andy

Due to an unforseen problem I couldn't attend this year's National Rally so I can't comment on the venue. I understand numbers were down but I am sure the weather would have played a part in this. I think it is very important for the club to find a permanent solution to where we hold the National Day as it seems to be a recurring issue every year. I think we need to look at one of two options:

1. We decide on a permanent central location (suggestions anyone?)

2. I like Keith's idea of holding the event on a regional basis. We wouldn't need a huge number of regions, just North, South, East and West would do. I could think of an ideal location in the East, perhaps we could go with Gary P's suggestion of Tatton Park for the North and maybe Battlesbridge for the South. That would just leave the West but I am sure other members could come up with a suitable venue.

I realise that by holding events on a regional basis you are never going to get massive attendance levels as the distances would probably be too great. By doing it this way however, the club could show that it takes account of the needs of the entire membership.

Perhaps this is something that we could include on the agenda at this year's AGM?

Keith & Simon. You both have some great ideas for moving the National Day forward. But these ideas need someone to put them in to practice. We still do not have a Events Secretary after making appeals for someone to step forward. I for one will not organise another National Day. So unless someone comes forward to take up the position of Events Secretary none of your great suggestions are likely to see the light of day.

I quite like the idea of having the LCR National at the AVO day. Their events organiser comes on here (I think he's called Mexico Tim) and they do invite other clubs to attend , so this should be fairly easy to get organised.

Sorry Simon but I've got to be 'Mr Picky' here.

Geographically speaking Manchester is North Midlands and Tatton Park in Knutsford is south of Manchester! As an ex-pat Geordie I would not have contemplated the 170 mile drive from Tyneside to Tatton Park!! Oh, and not forgetting that Tyneside is still 65 miles south of the border!

So where are the areas of high concentrations of members and how far are most people willing to travel to get to the venue?

I haven't been to a national day yet,- but I might!

Rick

I am not sure I would want the position of National Events Secretary as I just don't have the time to make such a commitment. However, I am happy to try to keep supporting events in the Eastern region. It's been difficult trying to arrange anything this year as my restoration project has taken up all my time. However, if the club can agree that holding the National Day on a regional basis is the way forward and others are willing to nominate themselves to fill posts in the southern and western regions, I would be willing to arrange a National Day in the Eastern region next year. How does that sound?

I can understand where you are coming from but I don't think it would be right to hold a National Day in the area where there are the highest concentrations of members as we would not be making it fair to the entire membership.

I know there are members who don't like travelling long distances in their cars but I can remember years ago when we used to hold the National Day at Longleat. We always had high attendance levels and many members would travel very long distances to take part. It was about a 500 mile round trip from Norwich. Once my car is back on the road I would be prepared to take it to shows up North if it meant supporting a member who had taken the time to organise a club event.

Hi All,
Interesting with the 4 regions, not being flippant but shall we have a fallow year in year 5 and take it abroad???

Sound idea to me.

Piggy backing with other clubs or events is the only way forward in my personal opinion. It certainly adds interest to the day to talk to other car enthusiasts and view other cars apart from Cortina's.

So is anyone Volunteering to organise this?

If we go the regional route, I volunteer to do the organising if it's held at Battlesbridge on the August all Ford weekend, as I do that already for the club stand, (it just means a larger stand every four years or so) but I'm not intrested in a National role as the job is doomed through lack of support for a centralised National.

We could pass on the role annually to the next region.

Interesting thread you guys got going here.
as previously mentioned in this thread, i am the events organizer for the avo club. Last weekend was our national day and we only had 70 cars on the members parking (88 last year) out of a membership of 500 ish,we had 86 members sign in with 56 signed in with a avo car there on the day.
we are currently surveying our online members to see what direction to take our national day.We have always been at Stanford hall since 1981
This day is the only day we organize as a club but we have 3 regional day were we have a club stand as part of a show (southern at Uxbridge, western at Tatton in August and Northern at Ripon Racecourse)
Ill be at Uxbridge if any of you guys are about.
Apart from those 4 events the club properly wont be seen at that many other events because our club members don't seem to use there cars that often.

Some 1 asked about other Ford show, how about the big cortina show at Stratford racecourse in august.

As a side note if there are any members from the Bucks/Oxon area then feel free to come along to our club meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at Plough and Anchor in Kingswood on the A41 between bicester and aylesbury

Tim

Assuming your members wish to carry on with a National Day at Stanford Hall, what are your thoughts on the suggestion that we could join your event? It seems that there could be potential benefits for both clubs. When will your online survey be completed?
