Magazine Editor - position filled

Andy M

New member
Hi All LCR Members,

As of this weekend we now have a new editor for the QB after Mark Ibbotts recent wish to step down.
May I take this opportunity to thank Mark for his excellent work in producing the magazine and all his efforts in what has to be the most difficult of all the committee positions.
Mark still remains a member and I am sure he and his family will be back on the scene in the not to distant future, many thanks Mark.

Andy M
for and on behalf of the committee of the LCR

mark, i dont know you but thanks for taking the time to do a great mag for all the members, i thoroughly enjoyed reading your articles every 12 weeks.

a very big welcome to the new editor

the king is dead, long live the king

Hello to all you members out there, my name is Geoff & I have taken up the challenge of QB Editor as of the last AGM. Mark has done sterling work putting together a great mag and deserves all our thanks for his dedication and hard work over the last 5 years. As already stated 'the king is dead long live the king'. Since the AGM I have been beavering away to bring you a year end QB, so don't despair normal service is being resumed. I obviously have quite an act to follow, so please bear with me while I find my feet.

As for contributions, please send them in. Despite the difficult period of handover we are still interested and needing material for the mag. Anything will be of use, you can send paper stuff to my address in the front of the QB or email to editor@lotuscortina.net and I will acknowledge receipt. Do not worry about about formats too much, although ideally articles in MS Word, Wordpad, or PDF would be preferred, and photo's as a separate file. Not too fussy I hope.

I hope you enjoy the next QB and am already clearing space by the letterbox for mountain of material to come flooding in..... after all you've had all summer to come up with something!!

Best wishes, Geoff

Hi Geoff,
I dont think that you will have to worry about people while you find your feet, as I think most of us are very happy that you have taken on the job of "QB Editor". Thanks for jumping in the deep end for the other members of the LCR, and best wishes with the Mag.
Matthew.

Thanks for your good wishes guys, I will do my best. Don't forget though, that the QB is the MEMBERS magazine, it should reflect what you are all up to not just me & the committee. We know there's lots going on, just look at the posts on here, but only 30% of our members use the forum. That huge majority only know if someone writes an article and sends it in.

I hope to get across to everyone that we don't expect war & peace, a few words and a pic will go a long way.

Here's a thought provoker...........to anyone reading this, what was the last thing you did to your LC? Even if undergoing restoration, in the last 3 months you've all done something. Even if only looked at it!! Simple, tell me, and I'll start a members cars section. Imagine how good it could be if we all knew the hard work put in by the members to get their car to next years National Day.

I hope I haven't descended into rant mode, I'm just passionate and enthusiastic to make the QB work.

I know this is bit of an old chesnut, but the last time I joined this debate it was mentioned that the majority of LCR members are not online and therefore truly 'Old Skool' and seemed quite disconnected with much of the debate on generating ongoing content and themes for the QB. Geoff, congrats and thanks for taking on the new role, one item for the next QB may be a way to rally the troops that are offline to put in their bit for QB as well.

These thoughts may not help, but just thought to flag them up. Also whether an 'editorial calendar' may be helpful for QB through next year to help people plan their contributions. For example, Q1 issue "getting ready for the summer season", "preserving your LC over the winter" etc, Q2 "LC friendly shows, what's happening as the show season starts", maybe some section of reprints from early day QB's as Keith has been trying to generate online etc. In other words, maybe replicating some ideas from classic car mags by slightly broadening the focus beyond "this is my LC and here is what I have done to it" or "here are some pics of my LC I restored" etc. I was also wondering whether email distribution by PDF is an option as well as a physical copy for those that want it.

None of this input may be helpful or welcome, but I thought it may provide some food for thought. I did contribute an article a few issues back and am happy to do my bit. I think my only concern is that the few members who are online seem to be the only ones driving this debate and the vast majority of other members maybe need a chivvy to catch-up with the latest technology to join and add value. Maybe a comment also on this in the next QB.

There's my several tuppence worth...

Thanks for your tuppence, quality stuff, and good to hear some ideas for future editions, all will be considered for inclusion. Send me a snippet or two, it will greatly help!

As for the offline members, rest assured I have included a request or two in the new QB. You guys heard it first here because I can post now, rather than print.

As for QB by PDF, we have discussed this, it 'just' needs a suitable spot on the website and an upload. Could easily be included with previous editions to create an archive as Keith has mentioned/ suggested.

Geoff, why not do a trawl of the forum posts and see if there are some articles you can use for the mag. I am a the local rep for another car club and when I have posted something of interest on their forum (like photos from a local show) the mag editor has asked me to e-mail him with a little piece for the mag. Maybe that could glean you some more articles to fill up the pages of Quarter Bumper.
Tommy

New QB Ed, may I take this oppertunity to wish you well in taking over my position as QB editor after I decided to step down. I hope that as we have a new committee member, you will get an influx of interest with contributions for the QB, and I hope they remain constant for you. Its not an easy job. made even harder by having little or no contributions from the members. If you need any advise im happy to help..
If you can PM me your email address I can forward you a few pictures sent to me recently, and if you can forward your postal address I can send you the last of the stuff I have..

Please note all you members out there, this club is run by ordinary members, who ,maybe foolishly, have done so for all our benefits, mine and yours. Without these people theres no LCR, and without contributions theres no QB, and whatever way you look at it, if theres no QB theres nothing for the non users of PC members who remain a majority of the membership. So dont leave it to everyone else, support your LCR :)

Also, thanks Tommy for your help. The idea of using parts of the forum was discussed at AGM and agreed to be a good idea. So long as we don't end up with a situation where it is assumed posts are going to be used, so no articles are sent in all's well.

Keep the ideas coming guys, I'm loving your help!!

Geoff - how about you dedicate page 3 of the QB to some regular automotive porn? . I vote that Kryten steps in to take the shots as he seems to have a knack of getting top quality shots of a good rear end. Just an idea :P

Geoff - there's nothing to stop you summarising the major elements of some of the more interesting posts from the forum & reproducing the essence of them in the QB for the non-internet community of the club to enjoy. This would provide some much needed content & generate some cross fertilisation maybe.
