Hi all, Could anyone help out here? Are the Mk1 Cortina headlight metal backing bowls and rubber gaskets the same as for the Mk2 Cortina? I thought that both models had the standard Lucas 7inch type? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Craig, I have checked my mk1 and mk2 parts books and in both the gasket is 211E-13044, with the headlamp bowl 204E-13010.
Therefore the answer to your question is, yes they are the same.

Hi Tommy, many thanks for your prompt reply and help, you’re a star. I haven’t got a Mk1 parts book at present to compare as it’s got lost so I will have to try and get another one soon.

As I remember the 7inch with rubber gaskets were pretty universal between some BMC and Rover Models but I wasn’t sure if the holes and fittings were the same to fit on the Mk1 and 2 Cortina. Do you know where I would be able to get a pair for my Mk2 complete with the chrome securing rings, and sealed beam fitting bowl and spring etc? The ones on my Mk1 are ok so only need I pair for the Mk2.

I bought headlamp bowls, complete with mounting rings etc (everything bar the sealed beam unit) for a rover mini from my local lucas stockist. Fitted a mk1 fine, although the gasket is not the same, with the mini one a lucas part and the cortina one a ford part. This was about 11 years ago when the headlamp bowls were about £25 each, but I am sure these mini ones are still available.

The Lucas ones complete with the wiring loom etc are getting hard to find. You can get reproduction ones , but they usually come has just the bare bowl and you have to buy every other bit separatly.

Note: Be careful if you are thinking of buying from the MK1 owners club as their ones are plastic.

Try these guys - I got some of my parts from them:

www.scparts.co.uk

Their online catalogue is impossible to use - its probably best to give them a ring.
