Mystery mounting

While under my newly aquired 66 LHD LC I found above the rear axle strengthening panels over the chassis rails , they appear to be original factory parts, so nothing unusual. But there is a hole through fromthe inside throughout the chassis and a captive nut on the out side , looks like something substantial mounts there with a 7/16 bolt .
I have looked at what pictures I can find but not found any other cars with this feature except pictures or a car with independent rear suspension which is mounted into these holes .
Please , what are they for ?0C7070E7-8108-40FE-8853-34709B4062EB.jpeg

No idea, no such holes on my 66 mk1 LC.
Maybe someone used them to fit extra rubber bump stops or something?

You could use the holes to inject some cawity wax to the inside of the chassis members, I guess, and then plug them?

I remember in the late '60's I was planning a trip to visit relatives in Poland, 4 people plus a very full boot and rear footwells, I fitted some rubber spring 'assisters' think they were like two rubber balls joined together and also a large 'dish' thing for them to bounce on. Think the rubbers were mounted under the U bolts and the dish was fitted in the position shown in the photo.

Good comments guys but they are I am 99% sure factory fitted stiffeners and mounting holes .
There was I believe just one car fitted with IRS for Jim Clark (550VAR ) now if you look at the pictures of that set up you can see the two upper mountings fastened to what looks to be exactly the same position as my mystery mounts and they would have used bolts of about the same size to do that .
My car looks otherwise the same as any other leaf sprung car .
Cheers Dave
