New wooden steering wheels for Mk1 LC?

I visited Aldridge Trimming in 1999, and had a look at one of their remanufactured wooden steering wheels for the Mk1 LC, really nice piece of kit!
A mate of mine has a 1966 LHD Mk1 LC resto object, and is looking for a new steering wheel. Aldridge tells me they don't do them anymore, so where to go? Mr Batchelor and his LCSC?
Thinking about it though, someone must have made the new steering wheels on behalf of Aldridge, maybe MotoLita?

Sadly when last asked the LCSC no longer do repro steering wheels. Apparently the cost put people off, so no more made. Have also spoken Paul Matty who tells the same story

I was in an autojumble in Denmark 7 years ago. I spotted a LC steering wheel in the hands of a guy looking at it at a sellers stand. I placed myself behind him and when he put it down on the bench and took one half step away I grabbed it. I asked the seller how much it was. Then the guy start to speak Swedish. I bought it for £15. Then I asked if he knew what car it was for, and he said he took it out of a Cortina years ago. I asked about the Cortina but it turned out to have been a GT. It turned out the guy lived about 50 km from me. And I had looked for a steering wheel for my LC since 1987...

Bertil £15 what a result. I thought I hit the jackpot last year when I gave £80 for an SE steering wheel.
I need 2 woodrim steering wheels and there must be loads of other people out there who also need them. Going by the prices they are making now is it not worth getting someone to make a batch up ?

When did they stop using the studded steering wheel as I have seen pre airflow cars with the later type non studded wheel fitted?

Have a look at the thread in the For your eyes ony section, 'steering wheel for pre aeroflow car', there seems to be conflicting info on this.

Rob, if you are thinking of getting a batch made look at the problem Steve Booker had getting enough takers for an A Frame bulk order.

i bought one in 2002 at an autojumble for £15.the guy thought it was for a vauxhall viva and he wanted £25 for it but i managed to knock him down!i found it very difficult to keep a straight face during the transaction.however when i was out of his sight i screamed a massive yee-hah and did a jig!

After you did the jig did you call him a two faced head up his own backside twat  ?????

I have just been in touch with Len Chandler who refurbed my studded wheel and he is going to be making new Lotus wooden rims later this year.
His email address is in the 'prefered suppliers' so it might be worth a 'group buy' to get a good price.

Sutty, Many thanks for the PM. Why dont you post your comments on the forum here for all of us to see your views ???????
Dont bother sending any more PM's as they wont be getting opened. :x

I contacted Motolita recently (Oct 2007) when I was trying to sort out my wheel boss damage.
(At that time Len was to restore my wheel after I fixed the boss damage.)
Moto Lita (Steve or Simon??) said that if I sent them my wheel they could make a copy, but with reinforcing for the wood rim. The price was very reasonable, subject to reciept of the wheel and examination at £275-300.

I do recall him saying its a 5/8" 36 slot with 8deg taper.

I was thinking of having a sturdy replacement made for normal use.

Hi,
According to 'Rallyman 72' on the AVO Owners web site ,someone called
Terry Batchelor is remanufacturing these wheels.
He may be known to your club, but if not I can get more info.
