Hi All,
Ok, let me explain in two parts to my post above. Moderators please move these connected posts!
Firstly let me say that I have known Simon for nearly 30 years and have always found him a very private, meticulous and very forthright person. On one occasion after talking to him on the phone, he very kindly offered to hold a BBQ for the members at his house (as many of you will remember) when I organised a trip to the Lotus factory back in the early 90’s.
I was constantly talking to him over many evenings about his car and what he should do with it as it hadn’t been used for many years (whilst he got married and had the children) way before he totally stripped it for a complete rebuild, even though I must say it was in exceptional condition to my eyes. It was me who encouraged him to get back into Lotus life after many years in the wilderness back in 2010 which eventually did lead to him to taking up the events position on the committee, a position that was vacant at the time. On another occassion he insisted that Julie and I could not leave his house (when we went on a day trip to Norwich and called in un-expectantly) without joining him, Florrie and the girls for dinner!
So as you can see I have no axe to grind. However here are the facts:-
In 2014 at the AGM the Chairman/Treasurer, David Missions stated that financially the club was on a downward slope and needed some ideas and input to see if we could reverse this position.
Simon went away as we all did to have a serious think and to see whether we could sustain or reverse the trend. Simon came back after many months with a full business plan and then some. His plan and ideas constituted some fundamental and radical changes to the structure and workings of the club.
All clubs are owned by the members and run by an elected committee to act on the memberships behalf in the best interest of the club. They are volunteers who give up their time and efforts and on many occasions their monies for the good of the club. We are all amateurs trying to do a professional job. If we get it wrong then everyone has their right to let us know.
Simon’s plan was read and discussed fully at the following AGM, which Simon I might add, did not attend and in total had only ever attended 2 AGM’s and has never attended a committee meeting.
Those attending the AGM voted on Simon’s plan and his points in conjunction with his letter to the committee. The plan was rejected! Not by the committee but by all who attended! Other points were adopted as is always the case.
There has never been a dispute or argument between Simon and the committee! Nor has he ever contacted any committee member directly but as you know did vent his position to all on the forum before deciding to leave the club.
