There are 15 photographs in the advertisement for this car.
In photo no.6, there appears to be no radio and the Indianapolis 500 badge is in the wrong place (as I pointed out in March 2020).
In photo no.7, there is a radio and the badge is in the correct place.
How strange!

Hi Michael,

If its any consolation the wings were not turned either in 2020 but they are now!

The owner is a mechanic with his own garage and has improved the car as per our conversations and has acted on my recommendations from the start of his ownership until present day!

This car is very good and one of the better ones I've seen well worth the money and just for the record I have no financial involvement or gain!

Many cars (not all) that have been sold especially at auction over the last 2-3 years have been re-shelled etc (which is hardly if ever reported as such) giving a false impression of the market and why it is reported in the media and "websites" that there is a downturn in prices! This simply isn't true regarding genuine cars.

As you know good cars will always hold their price and good cars will always sell!

Further, there had been speculation recently of a vehicle at auction the vehicle in question FTP 387D.
There was very keen interest over this car once listed with the auction house and lots of traffic on social media. I was in contact with the auction house as there was conjecture over the dating of the VIN but I assured the auction house with an explanation (amongst other things of hand written RF60's back in the day etc) and this was enough for them to continue with the sale.

Now I'll have to be careful how I execute this next bit as I'm bound to be brought to task over my words that will follow but I'm sure you'll understand and why I very rarely comment on any subject, even our own forum as someone will no doubt comeback with angst and negativity.

Social media desecrated that interest towards that car within days, the "keyboard wizards" (the worlds new experts don't you know) claimed the car was suspect and not genuine for whatever reason and subsequently the interest fell off a cliff and the car did not sell! The owner was devastated as he had bought the car in good faith and as far as he was concerned originality was never an issue.
Now I obviously cannot say it was solely because of this keyboard speculation from afar that the car did not sell but the keen interest that was once abundant dropped like a stone.

Now, every seller has the right to sell their vehicle whether genuine, re-shelled, fake or tribute without interference and it is not for the LCR or anyone else to deny that seller that right and the reason why we will not comment on any vehicle unless asked!

In the same vane a buyer has the right to buy any car they so wish and no one has the right to persuade otherwise and especially neither by speculation or hearsay but it is definitely the buyers responsibility to do their due diligence in the matter.

Only facts should be the order of the day.

Best regards

Andy M

Oh Yes for your information and anyone else that's listening that vehicle is genuine!!

Hi Keith,

I did see your post about it not selling I think it reached about 26k maybe 28k I'm not sure.

I'm not on facebook so can't see what you are referring too!!

Andy

PS Nice of Car and Classics to show the world his address!!!@*&^*&?!!

Andy/Keith:

All very interesting but not really an explanation for the radio and badge!
Is it simply that some photos were taken in 2020 and others in 2024?

Morning Michael,

I think I'm trying to point out that the photos taken in 2020 were from when it was for sale then and the photos on car and classic are taken in 2024 to advertise the car again.
Meaning as my reply to you was pointing out that over the 4 years of ownership the new custodian has added/improved the vehicle.

My comments after my response to you of the first 3 paragraphs was a general statement and opportunity to point out what damage negative observations can make to a sale. Not aimed at you nor this forum as comments on here are for members only (providing they're posted in the members area) but aimed at other media and social media outlets.

Take care hope the rest of the summer is good to all!

Andy M

Is it still for sale because:
a) Its too expensive?
b) There is something wrong with it?
C) Its a victim of the general downturn of the classic car market, according to the Bangers & Cash guru?

I must say I think it should have sold.

My guess is :-

d) The demographic has moved for the Lotus Cortina . Most people who lusted after one when they were 17+ would now be 68 at least and either have one, had one, or got over the itch to own one.

Bear in mind that the enthusiasts driving the veteran cars in the London to Brighton run weren't around when those cars were built !
I think there will always be people who like cars of a particular era,- maybe because their dad had one!
