Carpets

Hi All,

I am now finally getting round to finishing off Julie's 66 Car Hooray!!!

Now can anyone point me in the right direction when it comes to carpets?
I know that both Aldridge and East Kent both do them but recently I have had a conversation with a couple of people and they were not happy with them.

They had to be cut and shaped to fit and Aldridge's carpet also was cut to include covering the inner sill! This seems strange as they also sell the cardboard for the inner sill.
I am now not sure whether late 66 cars should have carpet or cardboard on the inner sill?

A few years ago several members had new carpets and these were even edged with vinyl and they looked very good and very professionally done. Unfortunately I cannot remember who had them or where the carpets came from.
I have seen Tripar on evilbay but they come in several pieces and even has a seperate tunnel section so that must look awful!

Anyone out there who can throw some names or details of their perfectly fitting carpet sets I would very much appreciate it.

Regards
Andy M

I put a set of Aldridge's in mine last year & they fitted fine - 2 piece set. They also lapped up the sills as I thought only the early cars used the finisher boards. Quality is good enough so I would recommend them.

Early cars have two piece rubber mats with finisher boards for the inner sills,- pretty sure it changed with the aeroflow cars although there may be 'half and half' cars trimmed at the change over like the ali/steel panels?

It depends if you want absolute originality Andy. I have been looking at ways of getting hold of an original style set of loop pile carpets for my car. I contacted a company in Australia called Knox Auto Carpets. They can supply a set of moulded two piece loop pile carpets for the Mk1 Cortina and they can also supply just the material if you want to make your own set. Problem is they only supply Australia and New Zealand and they don't ship worldwide. However, Robert Verhey kindly obtained a sample piece of carpet for me. If you wish to go down this route you could ask Robert or one of our other members in Australia to see if they could arrange shipping. I wasn't sure how well the moulded carpets fitted so I was thinking about getting the material and asking an upholsterer friend of mine to make a set to fit my car.

I used there carpet in my MK2, a car you know well, and I'm very happy with it. Happy to sort it for you if that helps.....

Thanks Peter. Does the carpet have a vinyl or cloth binding at the edges? Also, does the carpet have separate pieces for the inner sills and the vertical area of the plinth under the rear seat?

Thanks

Simon

Yep no worries always happy to act as middleman for shipping to UK.

Reminds me, after a long delay, a local Oz supplier is now stocking rear quarter window rubbers. They are a very good fit,

Check his other items, he's having most of the rubber parts for Mk 1 and Mk2 2 door models made up now

Hi All,

Any ideas who supplied the nice edged trim carpets I spoke about above as I am about to take the plunge with Aldridge if I cannot find the alternative I was looking for!

Also I was recently talking to a well respected Mk1 Cortina ex committee member well versed in original equipment on our cars and mentioned about the finisher boards and kick panels on a late 66 car as Julies is. He assured me all Mk1s had finisher boards not carpets on the sills and late cars had the Mk2 type plastic kick panels.
These were secured by lipping the edge over the A Post edge. Although the holes are there for the push in studs of the earlier cars the later plastic Mk2 type were on Julie's!
Any thoughts????

My 65 aeroflow A frame, still had a very tatty set of carpets in it when I bought it Andy, which I assume were the originals. They came right up the inner sills and tucked under the alloy sill step finishers. There were no card sill finisher boards fitted, even though my car had card A post finishers rather than the later plastic ones. I fitted an Aldridge set of the same pattern.
If my memory serves me right, my 67 registered 2 door super also still had original carpets too and these also went right up the inner sills, without card finisher boards. It had the plastic A post trims.
I think (but not totally sure) that all the mk1 cortinas, fitted with rubber mats, had card sill finisher boards, both aeroflow and pre-aeroflow.
Sorry for not really making things any clearer cut, for you Andy.
