I had an add for a steering box for my early mk1 (nov 63) as the shaft where the steering wheel slides onto the splines is damaged.
It brought up the question of number of turns lock to lock from Bertil who suggested it was 2.5.
In looking at my gold protfolio an article by motor and Autocar both say its 3 turns.
One has to bear in mind that there are also manual stops underneath on the cross frame that further limit travel.
WIth the steering box on the bench what should I have? 2.5, 3 or 3.5 turns?
Having stripped several steering boxes they dont tend to get used in the upper and lower sections of the box , so combined with the manual stops on the cross frame 3 turns seems reasonable mounted in the car and possibly more off the car on the bench (no stops).
Does anyone know how to get the drop arm off? Mines being a pig even with a heavy duty puller?
NB still looking for a steering box shaft and a casing I can canibalise.
