Eastern Creek-Sydney. All Ford day

Finally got the MK1 back and took it to All Ford Day yesterday. Only a 15 mile drive but she went very nicely after I flooded her trying to start. She ran at about 70-80 degrees and only went up a little over 90 in traffic or stopped. Seemed the thermostat kicked in a little high.

sorry but what is it with Australians and bling mk1 cortina should have steels and no dickie strip, sort it out fella

of course you are correct but the stripes have been on the car for about 15 years and not my doing and I believe minilites are period and acceptable. Fortunately I also have the steel wheels and they will return to the car when they are cleaned up and repainted. Also I've only had the car a few months and have been working in other areas of it which are more important......anyway I like the stripes.

Car looks very good as it is to me and as you say period accessories can easily be reversed.

No number plates and a UK tax disc in the screen?

Yes the front number plate is in the boot and I prefer it without and the UK disk is still on the car. Looking at the meet in the UK over the weekend, lots of people put minilites on their cars. I do prefer the steel wheels but that's not a priority for me at present.

Looking really good, Peter,,,I like those little stripes as well!

In the first photo, is that Mk 2 with the gold stripe an Aussie GT, with black bonnet and bonnet pins? They must be getting pretty rare now.

Hi Mark. How did you enjoy Gaydon?
We have a good mix of GTs both English and Australian but I'm not sure about the one next to me....should know shouldn't I! Funny but I like them all but I'm not that interested in other than LCs having never owned a GT. Having said that I do like the GT500 just for its rarity and there is a nice green one in the photos. Its for sale I believe. Asking about $80k so I suspect it may be for sale for some time.
The day had 3 MK1 LC's but only 1 MK2 which belongs to Dave Fotheringham, president of the Hunter British Ford Group. From memory it is a series 1 and Dave uses it alot. I've posted two photos just for you!
This link will take you to general photos of all cars present.

Hi Pete, thanks for those pictures. I think that an Aussie GT would make an excellent addition to your stable, and they are great fun to drive...especially on the dirt roads and sideways! I used to 'rally' one with a mate up around Marysville / Lake Eildon, a huge forest area north east of Melbourne with a lot of dirt.

Trouble was, we kept the car out in the country and small critters used to make their home in it. On one memorable occasion I was nicely sideways around a long sweeping corner, and drove into a clearing with blinding sun. I pulled down the sun visor quickly, to have a huge Huntsman spider, the size of my hand, drop out onto my lap. Our normal rally outfit was shorts and T-shirt, so Harry Huntsman headed straight for an area where the sun doesn't shine.....and the Cortina very nearly ended up in a creek.

Great fun cars, and not to be overlooked just because they don't have a twincam.

I enjoyed the National Day very much, and met up with a load of friendly folks who were very keen to talk about their cars, the importance or otherwise of originality and generally the state of the nation. A good day out.

Mark
