Front cover

Is it possible to remove the front cover and back plate without removing the cylinder head? Upgrading to Burton modular water pump and really don’t wanna mess with pulling the head off.

To be straight with you no!

Many people will reply that they have done it back in the day blah, blah, blah, but it is impossible to reseal everything!

The aggro you will have with the chain alone will cause you to say after 2 days of cursing I wish I'd taken the head off now!!
Its got to be worth fitting a new chain (especially if it is a split chain) with your new water pump! Why go to all that expense for a nice new pump and have it covered in oil within 50 miles!!

Chances are it could do with a refresh anyway!

Do the sensible thing and whip the head off, seal it correctly and you will have an engine good for another 30,000miles.

Now sit back and wait for the keyboard experts to tell you how easy it is in situ!!

It's true Andy - the "experts" are on the Facebook forum & it appears some have done it successfully.

The smart money seems to be do it properly & replace the pump etc with a modular unit from Burton's.
