Gear remote Gator fitting?

Should the gator for the gear remote have a metal retaining ring?

The parts book doesn't show one , but I found this on ebay that looks like it should be used:

Yes, otherwise the screws will pull through the rubber as you tighten them up.

Definitely should be fitted. Although not illustrated in the parts book, isn't it 113E - 7262-A, Retainer (gear change lever boot), on page 104?
