As found in the south of England many years ago. The car was only on the road from early 1966 until 1972. Travelled 102,000 miles in 6 years, and with a towbar fitted at some stage.

I have a matching '66 2dr MK1 GT (red) and along with the '67 Series 3 Elan dhc will become part of a nice stable.

The original owner was Vyrell Mitchell who was killed in an aircraft accident in 1972. The pilot, Prince William of Gloucester was also killed.

Vyrell Mitchell was Sales Manager / Demonstration Pilot with Beagle Aircraft at Shoreham during 1966 before moving to Oxford in January 1967. He then held a similar position with CSE Aviation, the main Piper Dealers in the UK.

I am sure he would have used the vehicle as a backdrop to the aircraft he was marketing at the time..
Naturally I would be most interested in any further history, - especially any photos.

The car is currently dismantled, in storage, awaiting a full rebuild.

Fascinating. To do 102,000 miles on late 60's UK roads in six years takes some doing.

So when will you start the rebuild?

With such a short period on the road there is probably not much history to be revealed. You already appear to know the interesting bits.

While i "personally" think the shape of mk 1 suits the red and gold of the Alan Mann colours, the white and green stripe are mk1 Lotus colours.

It will be back to how it was..... white.

I think I will be using enough red paint on the other cars anyway.
The Elan may even get some white to put it into a form of 'Sprint' style.

Aren't white cars supposed to show any rust, - even more incentive to get the preparation on the Lotus Cortina right I guess.

Mind you dont take no notice of me, i,m guilty of spraying a factory red mk2 crayford L./C. daytona yellow, and swapping dunlop alloys for chrome rostyles, but it was the 70s.
