Is the end of the LCR forum in sight?

Following recent postings about Facebook versus the LCR forum, I do wonder if the end of the forum is in sight when I see that such stalwarts as Keith Halstead has started copying his forum postings onto Facebook.
I get the impression that more and more people are using the Facebook platform instead of the forum which is a shame.
Who do you think will be the last man standing on the Forum?
My guess is either the aforementioned Keith or possibly Steve Booker.
I hope to be around for the wake, if there is one.

Maybe it is, I personally don't use facebook at all because of ethical reasons.
It is easier to split topics and discussions with a forum, but looking at other classic clubs a lot just have a facebook group.

I refuse to use facebook. I hate it. I know to many people that are glued to it, plus I think its addictive ???
Now and again Sharon may tell me something that's been said on one of the Lotus Cortina facebook pages and she may comment but 90% of the time its just crap on there. I'm not interested in looking at someone dog jumping through hoops or someones dinner or cocktail they have just had on holiday somewhere!!!!!!! :x :x

To me Facebook is an invasion of privacy. On numerous occasions we have been to events to find our pictures plastered all over facebook. In my opinion its no different to being put on the front of a newspaper. It should not be allowed.
I have been told so many horror stories of people posting pictures not realising who or whats in the background of the picture.

At last a lot of the people I know have seen sense and deleted there facebook accounts ????

Long live the LCR and the forum and yes it has gone very quiet lately but I am sure it will come back

I used Facebook for a couple of years, ended up shutting my account, it takes over your life and is full of annoying bullshit. The only positive was staying in touch with distant family. Must have spent hundreds of waisted hours scrolling through drivel.

Personally I say keep both.

FB is essential in my life for immediate travel information.

Plus it depends on your target audience. The LCR FB page has 582 members, not all active admtitadly, but a large following from overseas.

I'm the LCR FB page moderator and currently decline maybe 10 a week from people who clearly have no interest in cars.

I personally do not like being on FB, and agree with Rob's comments entirely, but also do not want to miss out on the rare photos that get posted on there. I know Ray; but I had little choice as the forum well was running dry & I was using my partner's Facebook access to keep up with LCR events. I felt as though I was swimming against the tide, as the younger members are not using the forum as much. I did start an account after MySpace gave way to Facebook in 2007 but soon saw the error of my ways & jumped ship as I was inundated with cr@p. I prefer the forum as it is a brilliant repository of data and we can always refer back to it. Facebook is just a list or posts & very clunky to use.

I have already noticed that I am not duplicating everything but will persist with both methods of comms.

Mind you I was justified in jumping ship back in 2007, as I do see a huge amount of purportedly 'funny' video clips, cat related material & weird signs / posters on there which could occupy most of your day if you stuck with it.

I think there is a place for both. The forum will become more for reference - its easy to search and has 12+ years of historical postings , in some sort of order.

Facebook is OK if you need info in a hurry , but the post aren't organised or easily searchable.

You have hit the nail on the head with those comments Steve, especially the "reference" bit. I find all the old forum posts informative and easily found whereas most of the FB posts are there today and gone tomorrow, never to be seen again!!

I think I can understand your post Neil, but after a couple of months I tend to agree with you - it's not the best but it's where the activity is unfortunately. Hopefully as with MySpace, it will morph into another App which is not as clunky & better suited to our needs. :roll:

You're right there Neil, it is absolutely addictive & you see people, especially younger people, locked onto it for hours. I think they should update the school road signs away from a mother and child walking hand in hand, to a mother and child both walking along side by side both looking down at their phones.... :wink:

So here we are 6 years down the line since this topic was started, and the LCR committee has announced that they will be committing to the forum and the club website, with upgrades planned, and they have withdrawn from the Facebook group.

The Facebook group will still exist, but is now independant of the LCR and has been renamed the Lotus Cortina Hub.

I look forward to what the club has planned here and with the website.

Yes the Facebook site will carry on and hopefully will go from strength to strength.

You have many contributors some with decent positive contributions some with negative and downright rude inflammatory comments which are not pleasant, especially, when on the receiving end and targeted as I am now through no fault of my own and are not able to defend yourself!

It is strange how some people have short memories and forget what the LCR has done for them, especially when we have acted and fought on their behalf when they have been at odds with DVLA over their cars registration etc!

Other peoples comments especially from one person who will always "prod the bear" at every opportunity (regardless of the correct facts as that doesn't make good reading) to try to get a reaction but as always we have to ignore it as that only fuels the situation.

I would like to think that instead of letting people run their mouths off ordinary folk both on your Facebook or on here will actually defend the good name of the LCR.

Not talking you or Howard as you don't need to alienate anyone from your site which is perfectly understandable!

However, it is so disappointing that comments and accusations can be dished out as freely as they are within any Facebook group with little or no recourse to complain. Such a shame that people can't sort their differences out over a pint anymore but as it is now with social media, things just fester and linger no wonder these poor youngsters these days feel so bullied and persecuted enough to take their own lives!

At least there are still some adults left that can communicate correctly and complimentary toward each other!!

With the new Website and Forum being worked on behind the scenes we are sure that members will see how the LCR is progressing in the digital age.

The Facebook page that had the backing of the LCR which has now been withdrawn has in my view turned into a toxic site which is why I left. People with a false sense of entitlement, Non members taking any opportunity to criticise the LCR and the committee to there own ends.

I know Howard and Steve have done a great job with the page and its a shame it has come to where we are now.

The LCR will be launching a LCR Facebook page for members only, which will be a fresh outlook, allowing the Committee to engage with members in a civilised manner. Members will be notified via email of how to log in, so watch this space

Anyone reading these last two comments in isolation without being party to what was said last week on Facebook must be wondering what the hell went on to cause such a sudden change in the club's direction. This is a very sanitised view of proceedings.

Rightly; I agreed with the Admins to delete all of the comments to avoid further dissent. Fortunately I kept screenshots.

In summary, I was accused of posting 'irritating' comments by one of the LCR Admins, then access restricted, then finally access suspended without any warning.

When I asked for some evidence of what was causing the irritation, I was given none and more derogatory comments were posted for me by the admin and later deleted. I was also told that I had an 'inflated sense of entitlement' for wanting evidence & an apology.

In my world if someone accuses you of something on a public forum, bans you without warning & continues to abuse you, that warrants a retraction. I did however get a verbal apology over the phone on the Monday on behalf of the club.
