Just bought my car it's Christmas present

Well Simon, I thought that as I was already running an A frame car, which when it's in the mood, is very good at leaking axle oil from an iron diff housing, that an alloy diff housing would be a step too far. Would have been nice to use original period parts, but they seem to command big money, even in poor condition.
I think they look nice too and even though they won't be very visible when on the car, I will know they are there.

Seems like I've fallen it a trap I didn't know was there, again  . My nice new alloy bellhousing has a 70mm hole for the starter motor bendix cover, but all the bendix covers I have are 65mm diameter.
Anyone got a 70mm one, in usable condition, they don't want, or do I have to get modifying?
Tommy

Any idea what the 70mm type were originally fitted to, and why, Steve? I have checked my mk1, early mk2 and corsair parts books and can find no reference to it. There was an iron bellhousing on ebay, that had the 70mm one and it had a 105E casting number, so are they fitted to 997 Anglia? It was bid to £82, which seemed an awful lot for an iron bellhousing. My Anglia parts book lists 2 different part numbers for 997 and 1200, but no way of knowing how they are different.
Tommy

Yes - the lotus cortina bellhousing is the same as the anglia 105E one. Your original cast one that you are about to replace should have the 105E cast into the side of it. When I restored my car the cap from the original cast 105E bellhousing fitted into my ali bellhousing no problem.

I'm also looking for a 70mm (2.75") cap for another member. They usually sell for about £30 second hand.

Dale Stephenson had one listed on with a buy it now last week for £39.

I believe the smaller caps are from the bellhousings of the smaller sized engines.

is this one of the 70mm bellhousing caps on this i wonder ?

Found the correct 70mm starter motor cover today on a scrap 107E Prefect, so it seems it's the 997cc cars that have them fitted. There was a super anglia in the yard too, but it had the smaller one fitted (found that after I had got it out). Best bit was when the yard owner didn't want anything for it, but I talked him into taking £5 for it and 2 decent strut top bearing covers. Also got and old stock correct air filter element for a mk1 lotus at the autojumble that was going on in the scrapyard, so two wins today. :)

I was thinking that. I've not been in one for years that a) has cars that old , or b) would let you wander around getting your own bits off.

Last time I was there I was very surprised to find a mk2 consul farnham estate in the yard (rare as rocking horse droppings). Yesterday I was even more surprised that there were now 2 of them in the yard, both in two tone grey/maroon. Don't know where he finds them.

I wouldn't mind betting that the Ford Heritage Collection would be interested as they are restoring a Police car version of that.

Finally got around to fitting the alloy casings and fixing the leaking diff oil seal, so here are some pics.

Hi Tommy - I notice your gear lever has a slight bend in it. I though all of the LC ones were straight. Were they only straight on the early cars?

Aeroflow car Steve, so it has the gear lever with the slight crank in it. I used my existing gear lever in building up the alloy remote.
