Yes it certainly looks a big job but not as bad as KPU 381C after Chris Sclater rolled it on the Ardgarton stage of the 1969 Scottish. Any chance of the history as to how KPU 391C got to look like this?

Rear end removed chassis rails rusty so need to replace

Wow Wayne; you aren't hanging about - I'd better save you a space at Battlesbridge in May ! Keep the pics coming it's good to see another one coming back from the dead. :D

Wayne
with the car in this condition I wonder if you could help me. I need to make a new rear flexible brake pipe bracket. The one on the body above the axle, it was broken off before I got the car, so I'd like to know the length of the bracket dropping down from the body.
thanks

Who's the fat bloke hiding behind the gas bottle in the last picture

Must be the apprentice :D :D

Hi
I reckon he's looking at the old bits on the floor & wondering how much they will make on evil bay

This car left Fords Monaco Red. Left Cheshunt for Ford competition dept (Alan Mann Racing) Monaco red.
The car still retains original chassis tag with paint code for Monaco red. I have all paperwork from Fords and Lotus cars stating colour as red.
Funny thing is iv'e seen publications stating all the AMR cars were originally ermine white. 392 has ermine white BA paint code. I have to disagree that all AMR cars were ermine white as my car was definately red.

Question is many have said Alan Mann cars were painted Ferrari Rosso Red and were not Monaco red, also the inner parts of the cars including the boot area and under the bonnet were satin black
Does anyone have any definate information on the exact Alan Mann colours including the gold ???

(To be honest I did have it in my garage parked next to a Ferrari and the colours did look the same)

Many thanks

Rob

Have you got the Summer 2012 Classic Ford article on 1965 Touring Cars (p109-111) where it states that KPU390-398 were acquired by Ford & a subset of these were then allocated to AMR. In March 65 they were still white/green & were painted in red/gold in June.

Didnt mr Stewart crash this car in -68 and have since been stored indoors all the time? Try and give a piece a good polish and have the paint scanned. Monaco red is available with most paint brands, so the color shall match the database to the scan. I dont know if the Ferrari colors are available for everybody, but atleast you will get some results from the scan.
Annoying only when you do this and a Hyundai or something else horrendous will make the best match...

Keith

That's my point

I have official letters from Ford motor Co and Lotus Cars archived dept showing the car as red from new.
The original VIN is on the car with Monaco red paint code...

So the myth of all the cars being white green must be incorrect ????

Apart from Colins old HLO car are there any other Mk1's known to be a colour other than white

Hi Bertil

In 68 the car was owned and being raced by Frami racing. So I am told they later bought AMR Mk2 Cortina and AMR Escort twin cam ?

Yes I believe the gold is very close to a Peugeot colour

Don Matheson's car (25 VUR) was originally brown!

I have a 66 LHD x US car that was Painted Red from the factory.
It has its original chassis plate (which I showed to Rick and Andy) the paint code is recorded
as BO which I can only presume the O was owners choice.
Keith Halstead confirmed when he joined Ford in about 1970 it was possible for owners to choose their specific colour.
I think like the BA 85 sequence of LC,s we are still finding anomalies to what we think was gospel.
In my case I thought I had found the holy grail of a works car.
However mine was a road car and in later life a race car.
I have tracked the owner from early 70,s to about 77 JIM Wellington in LA who purchased it as his 2nd Mk1
LC and as a road car.
I can't see why Alan Mann shell,s couldn't also have been painted red.

At the risk of starting World War 3 (before Donald Trump does), can I ask the following in relation to KPU 391C?
How much (or how little) of the ORIGINAL car has to remain to enable the owner to be able to claim legitimately that the car is still an ex Alan Mann Racing vehicle?
From the photos posted, it would appear that a great deal of the body will be "new" material.
I shall now retire to the bunker to await reaction(s).

Hi Michael

You have raised a good point. I am keeping as much of the original car as possible
(Hence joining up the rear quarters over the arches and not fitting complete new items) The original floorpan and chassis rails will remain as will all front end with exception of new front wings.
Wayne was going to cut off the rear chassis legs but we have decided to repair instead ?
I do have original doors and bootlid shells that need new alley skins due to damage.

So basically 70% ish of shell will remain original, also most mechanical parts are original

It is an old race car at the end of the day that has had plenty of action prior to being rolled. Hence trying to save original parts is proving difficult but we are getting there and saving as much as possible ?

Regards

Robert

From my point of view Rob clearly shows us what he started with, what he is doing and very important not doing. To me all this is a part of the history of the car. Just because theese repairs didnt take place in the era of the car it will not mean it not is a part of the history.
