I have been tying to remove the starter on my lhd car,the U.S. cars are fitted with a pre engauged type, and it wont pull out without the solinoid part hitting the crossmember,no matter how i twist it about.
Any clues??
Andy.

undo the engine mounting above the starter and jack the engine up to give you clearance to extract the starter through the bigger gap, I had a pre-engager on my Mk2 it was the only way to get it in or out.

Hes a pic of the problem,i see more or less what you mean Rik,so if i undo and take out the single bolt form inside the crossmember, and then jack up the engine,.the engine mounting will lift as well, and the starter will pass,i reakon it has to go up about 3 inches, will it be ok,and not cause any agro any where else.
Will that bolt be easy enough to line up,when i drop it back down?
Andy.

From your picture Looks to me if you put a jack under the sump and remove the engine mount from the block then it should clear .
