LHD with damaged shell on Ebay

Bit more info here "It has everything original on it, all the suspension parts are there , the chassis rails are good , never been welded, the floors are good , strip it , dip it , a small bit of replacement panels and re trim it , buy an engine then you have a good car"

I was the highest bidder and had bid a tiny bit more but the bids ended at just over £11k which is more than it should of been worth however I would spend my time and money over a good few years which is why and how I could take on such a task. I am in contact with the owner and may be purchasing however trust me it is far worse than mentioned above.

I am not sure how easy it is to find replacement LC specific parts such as dials, centre console etc although obtaining them would not be my first priority!

I had my mk2 Lotus featured in the club mags a couple of times about 8-years ago and only looking at this car as I should of kept the one I sold back then.

Cheers

Good luck with it Lee - you'll need deep pockets to buy the missing original parts as they fetch strong money these days as most end up on Ebay & demand is high as GT & Lotus replicas keep appearing.

Here's a good start :- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOTUS-TW...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

The seller seems confident he can get it UK registered "without the need of a club inspection"
Good luck if he can - but I don't believe it could be registered until its been MOT'd. Also It seems he doesn't have a title etc from the country of origin , so again I can't see how he can get it registered. The point I am making is don't part with £11k+ unless it has been registered or you have confirmed with the DVLA what is needed to get it registered and all that paperwork comes with the car. Do not take his word for anything. This is not a personal dig at the seller - just a case of the buyer going in eyes wide open.

The car will need MOT to be registered for sure

You can still get it registered without title but will need letter from either club or Lotus cars with an exact date of manufacture. Some US states still don't issue titles.

It will be a lot easier to register the car with a letter from club giving it the okay

Hi
I think it should have needed a title to export it from US.
I posted a car on Facebook Lotus Cortina page that I saw in US last week.
It looked pretty solid and was all complete.
I think owner would accept around $45 US.
PM your contacts if interested and I can pass them to him.
Not sure if that’s more cost effective or not but certainly would save a lot of panel work.

Regarding registering the Car, once the DVLA have been notified they will pass the details on to their contact at Ford Motor Company who will in turn pass it on to the LCR to inspect and report on the car, after which the DVLA will process the application dependant on the LCR report. That is how the process now stands, its taken time for the LCR to be involved with DVLA decisions around Lotus Cortina's but we can now flush out the log book creations and such like.

Thank you for all the comments etc.

I didn’t realise I needed to allocate £30k for spare parts!

If the car requires an MOT to regain registration then it might struggle to pass at present....

The confidence regarding re-registering the car is due to the fact that a letter was obtained from Ford in order to export it to the U.K. the cars chassis plate is with the car and I think it will either be sold to me or a chap from Belgium. I want the whole car as I am confident the shell is original and that is important to me although I do not speak to the owner (a trader) that often so the car could have been sold if someone offers more.

If this deal does not happen I will wait for a reasonable car condition B or C to come along that I can improve over time.

Many thanks
Lee

I’ve had a few cars in from USA with no title
I shipped them as parts cars, but the engine had to be out of Car to be classed as parts car

Th road worthy LHD drive one that is for sale in Scotland that recently was imported from Australia may be worth a look. Obviously a bigger initial outlay , but a far better car.

I would prefer a RHD for obvious reasons however on social media a number of comments were made regarding a LHD LC for sale and suggesting a re-shell etc.

I will get one and just need to be patient unless the dealer makes contact again as I am not sure why my calls have not been returned as I thought it was mine?

Did the US cars have a different throttle cable set up then
I don’t see the usual hole ?

The throttle cable can be spotted in the photo of the engine bay. Follow from the brake booster over the voltage regulator and then to the firewall just above the clutch master cylinder. On LHD cars the cable exits the firewall at this location.

I would like to make the point as a bit of confusion has come in here my car is for sale and is most definitely not a re shell and has been verified by The Register as all correct and is a very good rust free car for sum one. Yours Keiron
