so I have the original motor for my Oct. 65 Lotus that needs rebuild. I was looking to upgrade the main caps for a nice street motor. My motor is a graded block with round caps. which caps are best? I have a set of square caps from a 711m, but I see Burton steel caps are cheap as chips too. thanks

As Jules has said if you change the caps then the block and new caps must be line bored, you will also need new main bearings with a 15thou oversize as this will be the amount that will be lost when the caps and block have been line bored, I know that there was a problem a while back getting hold of these bearings best to check first before you have any machining done.

I would go for the steel items from Burton if they are cheap enough

I would think the round caps would be more than ok for a road motor, unless you are going to rev to over 7k rpm for prolonged periods! Use race quality mains studs and balanced crank assembly.
