Mk 2 throttle cable retaining clip

Just when I think I've got all the bits to put the throttle linkage / airbox back to standard, I've come to a halt and need some help!

The throttle cable goes through the bulkhead with the outer secured agaist a bracket on the engine side ahead of the bulkhead hole. The inner goes through a slot on the top of the throttle pedal arm, and the nipple sits in a recess at the rear of the arm. This is held in place by a clip...and I haven't got the clip! See picture and part 111350-ES.

Does anybody know where I can get one, or does anybody have a spare one to sell? Or is there a workaround that doesn't involve gaffer tape?! The last resort!!

Thanks...Mark

Hi Tinaintherainforest!
Many years ago I used heat shrink vinyl as a temporary measure. You know the stuff. I would`nt have a clue where to get it now as we used it at work. Just heat it up with a lighter and it shrinks over the pedal. As you never need to take it off from this end it worked a treat! I had to prize it off when I changed the cable. The actual spring really has no function so it does'nt need to be sprung at all. Its just to stop the cable lifting out of the split and recess.

Thanks chaps. Geoff, I'll pay millions, and Andy, that sounds like a good workaround. I'd got as far as some copper wire wrapped around it all in a figure of 8 !!

Cheers...Mark

Hi Mark

A number of manufacturers used to use this type of clip on Choke cables and heater cables. I remember Vauxhall used them on the viva, victor, bedford CF van, and VW on golf's.

You're right, Kev, but finding one the right size maybe tricky! I've tried a couple of similar clips, probably from a similar application. One was a tiny bit too small, and pinged off when I tapped the shaft. The other was too big and fell off! Trying to bend the big one to make it grip just broke the bloomin' thing.

Playing with this acceleratior pedal and getting the bits back together for the original airbox has made me realise just how many different parts there are in a Lotus compared to the other Cortinas. I'm starting to go through the parts book looking for differences, and there seems to be a few on just about every page.

I'm starting to write it all up...just for fun!

And I've just had 5 x 5.5J steels delivered...the Minilites are on their way out!

Hi Mark

Try Wurth the German workshop parts supplier they may have them they have allsorts of clips, fixings, and electrical connectors ETC, that you don't seem to be able to find anywhere else.

Sorry cant find the bloody thing, you see it a million times when you dont need it, and when you do.......

Mark, are you still in need of this part, as i've found it. I'm pretty sure it is the right part as it came in a box of bits and bobs with a mk2 series 2 lotus i had in which someone had fitted an after market magard twin throtal cable set up. I'll post up some pictures later and someone on here will know if its the right part.
Brian.

That looks spot on Brian. The hole for the nipple end is the bit that makes it difficult to find something else that does the trick.

PM me with the price with post and your address and I'll send Securicor around!

Cheers, much appriciated...Mark

Hi Brian,

You don't have another one do you? My system was replaced with a modern Weber by someone else - I've got almost everything I need to return to original and this is one part I'm missing!

Sorry i dont, but it can't be hard to reproduce, its only spring steel. Its on its way to mark now, perhaps he could look into it? I did find a s2 mk2 glove box lid knob (the rubber bit) if anyone needs one.
