MK1 door striker plates - painted or not?

Are the striker plates that screw to the B post supposed to be painted or left bare ali?

If painted - what colour? Mine had a grey paint on them (like primer) and I'm not sure if its original.

Hi, I think these where plated with zinc or yellow pasivate.

Im going to get mine re-done.

I know the escorts where yellow pasivate as we get them done at work but i think the cortinas where silver plated

Check out this unmolested car - bare ally by the looks of it.

Definitly not yellow passivate.

Keith - Its always difficult to tell from pictures as they are always covered in grease. I've given mine a blast and they have come up nice , so i think I'll leave them bare.

Here's mine Steve, as original, just the dirt cleaned off. I didn't redo them at all during my resto, other than a clean.

Back onto the subject of striker plates.

The gasket which fits between the sticker plate and the B post on mine looks like a very course grit peice of emery cloth , but with the grit on both sides. I thought it was something that someone had made up. I then checked a spare I had from another car and it was the same. Looking at the picture above that tommy posted (above) you can just see the gasket poking out the side and it looks the same.

So can anyone confirm if these are the correct gaskets. I'm not sure I can bring myself to put them against my nice shiny paintwork

Every time I've removed one they've always been there, so I guess the answer is Yes. Mind you I bet they weren't on early cars as I suspect they were a quick-fix to stop the lateches moving about when the doors were slammed.
