On my way to Whipsnade Zoo, and spotted MK1 Lotus Cortina with a numberplate starting in 'HUK' or similar, around 2 miles from the Zoo. It was following a MK1 Escort RS 2000 in light blue. Both cars looked stunning in the sunshine..
Thats 2 Lotus Cortina's in 2 days ive seen out and about..

I think HUK is the car renound for being in a back garden in Finchley for years before it was removed then believed reshelled possible into a pre-aeroflow body even though it was an aeroflow. Quality of work is meant to be good but no longer original. Not seen it myself just what I've heard.

sounds like the finchley car.tried to buy it when i was 17,but no luck.heard it had a reshell too.i seen it before it got sold on e-bay and it was one of the rustiest i've ever seen.

If its the same car, it looks nice now, I know that you cant judge it on a drive by, but it looked OK. very clean and straight.

just found a pic of huk...c before the re-shell ! hope it works :)

My 4 door fleet car was like that when I got it from a scrapyard but it was too rare to go for scrap. Front end is fixed but it still need rear footwells and a left rear chassis leg (too busy with my estate to finish it at the minute). I am sure that cars shell could have been fixed too, if someone could be bothered, but its reshelled and unoriginal now, so thats that.

you needed to have seen the state of it ,paul daniels would have had trouble fixing it:( the bloke who bought it off e-bay for over 3.5k was at the enfield pageant buying panels, but it would have been a very expensive job,so he must have decided to re-shell it.at least it's known and not a secret. i remember the write up on e-bay was like a hollywood blockbuster script !

I think the worst part of the story is the £3K profit for just picking it out the garden and putting it on ebay, especially after numerous people had knocked on the door over the years asking to buy/restore it.

i think he was sort of hoodwinked out of it.the tale i heard was that the council said the garden had to be cleared of the cars he had in it,and the price of £300 is what i was told the trader paid for it.i must know of 10 people who tried to buy the car over the years but he was not interested,he came across as a bit of a loner oddball bloke but happy to talk about the car ,at least the car is about even with another shell :) it could have easily have been pinched for scrap, like my mates 1600e did a few years back :(
