We have now listed this car on eBay, thought id repost here with better description and more indepth pictures
Hi here we have for sale a exceptional airflow Mk1 Lotus Cortina. This is a stunning rust free car which has spent all its life in sunny South Africa. This car was brought over to the UK approx 3 years ago by a wealthy private collector friend of mine who searched high and low for the car he wanted. The car was then inspected by the Lotus Cortina Register to authenticate it in order to get it registered on its UK number plate.
Exterior
The shell of this car is in what can only be described as A1 condition and appears to retain nearly all of its original panels including inner/outer wings, rear arches, quarters, sills etc and is definitely one of the straightest, unmolested cars we have seen. I would say this car has had a light restoration only a few years ago, the paint job is in near perfect condition also being stone chipped and painted white underneath. All rubbers and seals look like they are brand new, and chrome work is perfect.
Underneath
The underneath of the car is very nicely detailed with most components, running gear and suspension etc powder coated and pained black, all original front suspension including proper lotus legs, lotus track control arms and lotus straight steering arms which are rare to find still on these cars.
Interior
The interior on this car is A1 perfect condition with seats, headlining etc being unmarked and like brand new, still with original radio. It is complimented by a rare motorlita steering wheel, original wheel can be supplied if requested.
Engine
This car has benefited by a thorougher inspection by the well known Lotus Outlaws to be maintained and serviced. On inspection the car had done literally no mileage in the last 3-4 years and driven only once for approx 1 mile on arrival and then sat in a heated show room. Once the car was started up it appeared to have a serious top end rattle and it was decided to remove the engine and to have Wayne at Wayne Mitchell Competition Engines dismantle the engine, find the fault and rebuild the engine. He is to replace bearings, piston rings, rebuild the head and carburetors etc, in our opinion Wayne is without doubt the best Lotus Twincam builder in the Midlands specialising in only Twincam, BDA and Millington engines. This car will be presented with a very strong 0 miles built engine with full photographic evidence which is very important with these cars. Uprated aftermarket servo fitted which easily be put back to standard.
To sum this car up, it is a very straight original car that has only ever needed a very light restoration, it has never been a rusty old bucket that has needed to be welded to death like so many we have seen. All original spot welds in place on panels and all gaps perfect. Unfortunately little history with this car due to where it came from but the car has been inspected and speaks for itself. This is an opportunity to own a stunning example of an iconic 60's masterpiece.
