Hi all, yet another log tale of woe!!
Clarification needed regarding engine, head and block, stamped and casting numbers/letters on my Mk2 S1 Lotus Cortina.
The car is a three-owner car from new including myself and it has the Vin/Chassis plate with it, including the original inner wings with the Vin/chassis number/s stamped in the O/S inner wing strengthening/heavy duty panel.
The build codes indicate that my car was built in (Sept 1968). I have just been looking at an old post of Tommy/Waf in mechanical section; regarding the engine number ID on an Mk1 Lotus Cortina. From what I understand the Mk2 L/C may have a similar set-up?
While getting some work done on the car ready for the MOT I wanted to try and verify if at all possible what the Head, Engine and block casting numbers should be.
The engine is still in the car so I have used a mirror to look at the back of the head. The numbers/letters on the head are the same and match the ones that are on the engine number on the block below the carbs. Is this correct? If so what should the casting numbers be on the left rear side of the block other than the Ford’s casting numbers 6015? The “T” number on the right front side of the block next to the distributor is “T3”
There are two sets of numbers/letters on the rear of the head, some in the center of the head, and some smaller numbers/letters stamped below these but just to the right. I have pictures of all these numbers but for obvious reasons haven’t put them up on the forum. I have looked at the http://www.lotus-cortina.com/library/block/blocks.htm and it does seem obvious yet there are lots of choices/variations.
Finally, If any members feel its ok to post comments regarding numbers and locations of numbers/letters etc in the “LCR Members Only” section, please do so, alternatively PM me with any answers should you feel this is more appropriate and secure for the LCR. Any comments and answers would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Craig
