Hi everyone,

I just found this Mk I, after it sad at a Workshop for 26 years!

The Car will be fully Restored and put back on the Racetrack, I do run a small Restauration Company, so restoring the Car will be no problem.
Even if its hard to find parts in Germany, I am sure there is lots in the UK.

But I am clueless when it comes to Mk I Lotus Cortinas, and thats why I was wondering if you guys would be so kind and help me out?

I would like to posted some photos of the Car, Engnie and so on to find out if the Car is first of all genuine!

The first set is of the Enginebay, and the Engine!

Next the Engine and Gearbox, I know the Gearbox is Wrong!

The Block is marked 701M6015 and has a Large "L" behind one of the Engine mounts!

The Car as I got two weeks ago, perhaps someone might even know the Car, as it is a UK Car?

Finally here are a few images of the Boot, as some guys told me that there are some details to identify a "True" Lotus Cortina!?

Many thanks

@ L Brown

Thanks for your reply,
what do u mean by the Engine doesn´t look Genuine?

I do know that the car needs a 2000E Gearbox, which I already got.

Thx
Andreas

I thought the L blocks were only fitted to Mk2s. That's probably why Mr Brown says the engine doesn't look original. The head looks like it's also from a Mk2 as the casting was different to the Mk1

This race car was obviously modified back in the day, when all out speed was more important than todays love of originality, so the better, stronger, later twincam engine was used along with a uprated gearbox. Why is that reg so familiar?

Appears on the register, in the Spring 99 Quarter Bumper magazine, with a August 65 build, chassis number, must be a very early leaf spring car. Engine number listed, was a 116E number, so must have since had an upgrade, to that 701 block engine.

Thank you very much Guys for your information, please keep it up:
I need to find out as much about the car as I can!

I am hoping to use the Car as a Race car again.

Thanks guys, I will keep u posted

Rear axle looks like a normal Ford English axle, also known as a Timken axle, with radius arm mountings, as would normally be in a leaf spring lotus cortina. Rear springs look to be proper lotus cortina ones. Differential is interchangeable with that from anglia, corsair, classic, 107E prefect, mk1/mk2 cortinas and english axle mk1/mk2 escort and capri, apart from the driveshaft flange which may need swapping to match your driveshaft, depending on what car a donor diff was from. Differential can be removed/replaced as a complete unit, by pulling the axle halfshafts and unbolting it from the front of the axle casing.
Leda are no longer in business, but were long established and rebuilt struts for fast road or competition use. They will have done that height adjustable conversion on your struts, probably for competition use. Gaz suspension will service/rebuild Leda struts. I have uprated Leda struts on my lotus cortina road car.
Looks to have the bigger late front discs and calipers (although with the calipers mounted to the rear) and manual adjust rear brakes. Probably the best combination of lotus cortina braking parts. An August 65 built car would normally have the smaller front discs and calipers and the manual adjust rears, same as on an earlier A frame suspension car.

Another Essex NNO reg which you may have remembered - also Vic Elford drove NNO 761C (Red Lotus) in 1966 season - pic on P40 of Ford Boreham book by Graham Robson .

@ tommy,

thank you very much for you help!!!!
I alreday spoke to GAZ, and as it turns out I have to buy "new" Front struts, in order to keep the car eligible for FIA Racing!
So me Fronts struts are for sell, if anybody wants them please contact me!

Cheers
Andreas

If you are going to make the car fia eligible you will also have to run the early p14 calipers, you will not be able to use any electronic ignition, you will not be able to use the strut brace and the exhaust manifold must be the same as original fitment in the routing of the primary pipes and there diameter.

Shouldn't an aeroflow car have P16 calipers?

Aeroflow cars up to OCT 65 had P14 front calipers Pete, so all A frame aeroflow cars and also early leaf spring cars would have originally been fitted with P14s.
