New Lotus Cortina

Hi guys. I have recently joined the LCR, and this is my first attempt at using the forum. I had heard that Lotus is looking at building a new modern day Lotus Cortina. Does any one know any more of this?

Yes, that's true but look at the success that VW had with the Beetle, then BMW with the Mini, Jaguar with the S type, & now Fiat with the 500, Renault had a go with the 4CV, so maybe we will see a modern car with the styling cues of the Lotus?

:D
If it ever did happen I can just imagine all us on here spending all day complaining how the new model is not as good as the original...just like the m*** boys!

The one thing a new model would never be able to recreate is the way that both Ford and Lotus were at the top of their game during the time the LC was out, and links between the top people and the build/design/development of the cars was much closer.

You could spend thousands on a new lotus, park it outside your house but nobody would notice, their to busy looking at your old one.

They could never, ever, create that distinctive smell that the Cortina's interior has - or is it just mine that smells like it does?

i cant see why they cant make a car based upon the origional shape of the cortina as all of the big american motor companys have recently produced up-to -date versions of their 60s and 70s best sellers, ford redone the mustang and t-bird, dodge has redone the challenger and charger,im sure chevrolet have redone one but cant remember which,
i wonder what the modern lotus cortina would look like?
better still what would it go like?

Sorry but it'd be shi**e. Look how Ford bastardised the Cortina from the Mk3 onwards and has produced mainly trash ever since (okay Cossies notwithstanding, the sporting Capris and the Escort RSs of the 70s). They have managed it in the US with the latest Mustang but the LC was a car of its time as was the RS2000 (remember the crap mk3/4 Escort version they launched to revive the name!).

My advice leave well alone and buy a decent new car for the commute :)

Hi guys, thanks for your feedback. It's been an interesting read. I guess the old original classic L/C's will always be appreciated. If they ever did make a modern day model, they too would have to be race winners on the track and the rally circuts in order to emulate the success, and following of the golden oldies. They could never smell like the originals, nor ever have that great induction sound, or sporty exhaust note! By the time they were 40 years old, our originals would be 80!
