Like most of us,i keep my eye on ebay, and have noticed over the last year there appears to be some pretty rare "original pannels" comming out of the Czech Replic. This is great news for people who are restoring there cars, and i hope they keep comming.
Got me to thinking about the source of these, has the guy got a big stash, and is just releasing them bit by bit, are they really original?,or very clever copies.Any one bought any,and what are they like.
Was the a lot of cortinas over there?,are they comming from somewhere else?
Just curious.

I have dealt with this guy, (Jaroslav Florian) on a couple of occasions and he is a cortina enthusiast with several cortinas mk1s and mk2s. I have a fleet car and he was the only one I could find with the parts I needed for the front end (most cars that went there were fleet type cars). I also bought a pair of 4 door rear quarters from him which were original genuine ford in very nice condition, although one did get damaged in the post. I think he is selling his stash of parts as he has realized what we in the UK will pay for stuff that is virtually worthless in his country. He probably cleared out the dealers who sold Fords in his country and is now reaping the benefits of his forward thinking. I know a guy local to me, who did that 25/30 years ago and is sitting on a fortune, but he is just so awkward to try and buy from, that you eventually give up trying.

My Misses is Czech and I have been over there plenty of times. I have never seen a cortina on the roads , and as far as I am aware there aren't that many ford dealerships over there , never mind ones that have been going since the 60's.

I have no idea where he is finding these parts , but he must be living like a king on the proceeds :D

Extract from Newsweek magazine in the mid sixties says about the sales in one year :-

"Ford even sold 1,150 Cortinas in Czechoslovakia, 400 in Venezuela and 900 in Thailand."

Not bad for a small market with Ford of Germany's Taunus nearby.

What about the pair of tail lamps that have already got to £410. God help anyone rebuilding a little 1200 deluxe, or any cooking mk1 for that matter. :(

A pair of window winders recently went for £420, so there's the benchmark.

The way things are going the new panels I am keeping JUST IN CASE are better than money in the bank, but if I used them on anything other than a Lotus it would be just like burning tenners. :?

why don't we start a separate post listing what NOS MK1 parts are selling for on ebay. It will make interesting reading over time

I wondered about that as well - it would make a useful reference list when people wanted to know the 'value' of parts. Keep it in the private area though eh?

How about a post owned by you Steve with a list by category Body, Mechanical, Trim, Electrical etc then add the items underneath with price & date. People could email you the details as they come across them & you, as the owner of the post, could update the text.

If you don't want to maintain it, I could - what does the membership think of the pro/con argument ?

IE

BODY
