Series 2 Mk 2 WHE 145J

Hi All,
I have been asked to advertise this car on behalf of one of the LCRs long standing committee members.
Late series 2 Mk 2 reg WHE 145J

This car is being offered to LCR members in the first instance and will not knowingly be sold to any dealers or racers. It will only be advertised on the LCR forum and if not sold it will be sold privately.

This hopefully is so members can get the chance to enjoy this car as it should be at a competitive and realistic price as opposed to dealers and web based sites that will just inflate the price.
• History. The car has been owned by the present owner since 1983 who put it back on the road in 1992. It has had only 2 owners the first being an RAF Squadron Leader who later during his ownership became a Wing Commander who then passed it onto his son and now the present owner.
• The car has all its MoTs since 1992. There is numerous amounts of paperwork including the original Bill of Sale!
• All bits are as it should be it still has its original “£1,000” Airbox etc fitted.
• It has never had a radio fitted and still has the “cubby hole” within the centre console.
• Car is White and has never had a Green Stripe as per the original order.
• The car in the past was featured in Practical Classics.

It has only covered 16,000 miles since 1992 with some years only covering a couple of hundred miles from MoT to MoT. For this years Mot it only required a wiper blade!
This is the main reason for the sale as it is not used and enjoyed like it should be.

The car was recently taken off the road after its Mot for a “tidy up” with the intention of selling but, the car deserved more than a make over so was treated to a full respray top and bottom.
The engine was stripped but did not require any work so had new seals and gaskets all round.
The engine is standard spec and has never been bored! The Smallest of regrind on the crank was done in 1991. It is the original Engine & Original mileage!
The gearbox was stripped and only required a 3rd gear syncro again all gaskets replaced.
The servo was rebuilt and a new Master Cylinder fitted. All running gear was checked and found to be fine.
All the interior is as it should be and all the correct bits are with the car.
The Wheels were blasted and have been treated to 4 new tyres.
The car is not cheap but certainly not near the price of some cars that are around at the moment with suspect foreign history!!
This is as honest a car as you will get and is up there with the best Mk2s in the country.
For further details ring Kryss:- 01926 832314
The owner will be unavailable during middle of November, so I have permission to deal with the sale if need be on:- 01923 776219
Tyre kickers or dealers need not apply! Photos to follow if I can work it out!
OIRO £15,500

Hi Louis,

Thanks for sorting the photos. I know it must be easy but I think I want someone at the end of a phone to talk me through it as i do it! :?
Yes fair play to Kryss just shows there are still some decent people out there!

Echo-ing Andy's message Louis - many thanks for your help with photos.

Kryss x

p.s. I've been called many things in my time but "decent" isn't one of them. Nick WILL be disappointed!!

There is a very happy Australian member who missed the MK1 on Baron's last night but has now bought this beautiful MK2 and wants to thank Rick particularly but also all members who have contacted me during my quest. Its been a hard road as Rick knows and I did want a MK1 originally but I have looked at a number of MK2's and I think this car is really special so I will have my LC fix!

She originally came from a Ford main dealer called Service Garage (Barnsley) Ltd in Dodworth Road, Barnsley for the princely sum of £1253/13/10d (had to look on t'internet how to write that)!! Those were the days...

Glass' guide shows a 1963 A frame car would have traded against this car at just £235 in 1971 - Bargain!

Thanks Kev. She does actually look good (I know anyone who’s known me for the last 26 years has never heard me say that before) and I’m sure Peter will agree when he sees her.

Thanks Peter for what surely has to be one of the smoooooothest transactions ever.

While I’m at it, I’d like to thank Andy for putting up with my endless questions, for the post restoration valuation and compiling the ad (not forgetting ever-tolerant Julie for putting up with it), Rick for crawling under the car in the 1st place to give me the best advice on selling, Louis for the computer tech help and Scott for the general advice (sounds like an Oscars acceptance speech) but seriously guys, I really do mean it x

Just out of interest, the cost breakdown was:
£1008/0/0 Cortina Lotus to makers specification
£308/0/1 Purchase Tax
£25/0/0 Road Fund Tax
£12/10/0 Underseal
£8/9/9 Seat Belts
£4/10/0 Number Plates

£1364/9/10
-£110/16/0 Discount
£1253/13/10 Purchase Price

The stripe was a dealer option but I’ve no idea how much it would’ve cost. When she underwent her 1st renovation 25+ years ago I debated whether or not to add the stripe and decided not to because she didn’t have one originally, she’d be like a belisha beacon for thieves and a lot of club members said she looked different without one. Ultimately, I had far more fun leaving “competitors” standing at the lights – a wolf in sheep’s clothing…

I'd like to echo the above.
Everybody has been great especially Rick who inspected two cars for me.
I know I did a backflip as I was looking at MK1's but I thought this car was a standout and ticked all my boxes....except being a MK1.
I have time for that. This is my first LC but maybe not my last. I like the standard wheels alot for originality but as my 29 yo son actually owns half, I'm catering to both of us.
Now I'm going to take a poll about the stripe. I really love this car already and love the look but I also love the LC stripe so I'm having such a good time here I'm going to ask the audience..........

Personally, I think they look prettier and a little softer (how girlie is that??) with the stripe even though I chose not to put it on - mainly I suppose because it didn't have one originally. I could've put a pink one on!
Either way Peter, I have the template and will of course be sending it with the car.

I wondered what a template was (besides the bleeding obvious) but that's great. Hope you don't mind the poll I posted as everyone seems to have an opinion..........
