Neil from 105Speed.com has been in touch about new Stainless Steel manifolds and exhausts for the twincam. All contact details are on his website: http://www.105speed.com/default.asp?id=1 - here's what he has to say:-

"I just wanted to let everyone know about our new Lotus Twin Cam Manifold,
wont be everyones cuppa as I know FIA Rules dictate 4 into 2 into 1
manifolds, but for road people with tuned engines it should work nicely. If
a few guys wanted to get together then a group buy could be done and a
better price arrived at for members of the group, especially if people were
having a system from us too.

I've attached some pics, perhaps you might like to post something about it
and that we will do a deal if we get an order for 3 or more from the group.

Retail on the manifold is going to be £275+VAT and the Cortina Systems are
£235+VAT

i had a manifold very similar to this one on my old mk1 and the collector box rotted away so i put a standard manifold on while i sourced another collector box.the difference was amazing and if you have a slightly modified engine (mine was bvh and L2s) then £300 is cheap.you wont be dissapointed!

There have been earlier threads on exhausts (couldn't find it) but I will say again that according to Miles Wilkins in his book, Lotus put a lot of effort into designing the exhaust systems for the twincam and to change the pipe sizes and design will lose BHP.
Anyway it just looks totally wrong.

Cheap indeed....

I've just looked at the Burton Power website and they are now listing a Quicksilver copy of the original manifold in Stainless at £580+VAT and a copy of the original system at £340+VAT

Total Price is £1071.55

Makes our £581.63 seem quite reasonable.

And the development car will be on the rollers in the next week or so, I'll post the before and after graphs so we can see just how much power has been lost.....

Is there a 4-2-1 manifold avalible, as i've heard that you loose alot of tourqe in the low fev band with a 4 into 1 race types.

Sorry Brian the 4 -2 -1 style manifolds are more involved in the production so the cost goes up and people just wont pay the money for them, I would expect a 4 -2 -1 made to the same standard would be £100 dearer

I drove the development car, a 1959 Anglia 105e from Kent to Northants that was running a 3:54 diff and 2000E box and it pulled very nicely in all gears from low revs, I didnt have to keep it buzzing along to make it go thats for sure.

This car will be rolling roaded at Northampton Motorsport shortly where it was set up earlier in the year so we can see the differences in power and torque from the original 4 -2 -1 to the new larger bore 4 into 1.

Primaries are 1" 5/8 and the collector exit is 2"

Having run both 4.2.1 and 4 into 1 on the same engine I found that there is more low down torque with a 4.2.1 system but more top end power with a 4 into 1, you also feel the cams coming in with the 4 into 1 there is a more pronouced power band, if you want to have fun go for 4 into 1, if you want a more sedate drive stick to 4.2.1

Hi Martin

I have one left of the first batch, I'll do you that for £250+VAT (£293.75) and the delivery at half price (£5)

Initial feed back has been very positive with owners reporting free'er revving and more of a 'kick' when the cams come in on tuned motors.

As yet no one has reported any noticeable loss of torque and cars are pulling well from low revs in any gear.

Cheers Neil

I purchased one of the systems from Neil for my Mk1. Many asked why I would bother with shipping a system all the way to California when I could just have one made at an exhaust shop locally. Well, I am glad I did. This was one of the nicest parts I have ever purchased for the Cortina. The fit and finish was outstanding and the sound and performance great. While it is not made to the original style and is larger diameter, it suited my application perfect.
I only purchased the system and not the manifold but I am going to order
two more systems soon for other projects.
