Steel Wheel Paint Colour

Does anyone know if the original steel wheels on the Mk2 Series 1 were painted silver on both the outside and inside or were they painted grey on the inside and silver on the outside?

I have my original 65 steels,and are silver in and out.

I've got a picture somewhere of what were claimed to be NOS wheels.
They were a dark grey on the back and silver on the front. I'll try and dig the picture out.

After 20 miles the inners always end up aspestos brown.

The inners are actually black with silver 'overspray' leaving quite a lot of black showing

Just got mine off the shelf and had a good look,they may have been grayish at one time on the inside,but cant see any traces off black,i belive these to the original wheels to the car,and are stamped L.P.,followed by the part no and the size.
Still dont make me right though.
