Stepped piston rings

Im in the process of having an engine freshened up

Machine shop has been in touch telling me top ring was broken
But top ring in this engine has a step in it to suit piston

They are struggling to get rings ?

This is an early engine

Anyone out there have any ideas ??

Many thanks

Rob

So the groove in the piston is sized for the narrow section of the ring?
If this is the case have the piston machined to suit a ring you can get

Thanks for that link above
This engine is the KPU engine which was originally put together by BRM according to AMR paperwork thats with the car.

The link shows these rings were used by Cosworth and BRM in race engines ??

So maybe this is an original engine built for AMR

I have never seen rings like this

Regards
Rob

Dykes rings are common place in motorcycle engines. There's probably a company out there that still make them Rob. And yes, I'd bet that's the original engine.

Had no luck at all with these rings

Tried a few MAHLE distributors and got nowhere

Going to machine the pistons to suit standard type rings ☹️
