Twincam Escort

Wow..... I note there's no reserve!
Anyone like to hazard a guess as to what it fetches, and what it may be worth restored?

For such an important car why the naff photos. It would be nice for someone to make the effort, drag it outside and take some proper piccies.

Having said that, lovely historical car to restore. If money was no object i am sure many on here would like it.

As a known and well campaigned car it would be a very rare survivor with its original shell. Most had been re-shelled after a couple of seasons, and then often ended their lives as an Autocross machine. Unfortunately, that’s where many rally cars lost all their original rally equipment, and that is horrendously expensive to replace. You can add £10k easily to the cost of restoration for the period seats, timing kit, dials, lights, sump and tank guards etc.

AMK was a Group 2 car, which was pretty standard, and they tend not to fetch a lot more than a well restored road car….maybe £35k - £40k currently. It was campaigned by Motoring News on the RAC rallies. I was told by the (then) owner of the car a couple of years ago that it had been re-shelled in period, which is fine as far as the provenance goes. But the car was auto-crossed after its rallying career, and the shell is in a pretty bad way, with every panel well mangled and some very bad rust in the chassis rails, or rather, what’s left of the chassis rails. This maybe explains the poor photographs?

I was offered the car for £10k two years ago, and I believe that’s what it sold for 9 months ago. None of the running gear or the engine / box was original to the car. As a cheque book restoration, the shell would need a good £15k - £20k spent including paint, maybe a bit more, and there wouldn’t be much left of the original shell by then.

It would be a labour of love for sure, and a very appealing one. Like most old race or rally cars, it wouldn't suit folks with an interest in originality though.
