i have a few different "types" of 51/2 j wheels and i am trying to put together a matching set of 5.
i have 2 that are stamped 4 66 so i am assuming a date of April 1966,
i have 1 that is stamped 1 70, again assuming jan 1970,
i have some with shallow outer beads and some with deeper outer beads,
i have two with the number 881A stamped on them....

help!
does anyone want to swap trade for a correct set, have i got 1 or 2 you need.

Hi Mark , I was in the same position as you and think I have just about manage to sort my sets out.

From my experiance the ones stamped 881A are MK1 rims.
I wouldn't worry to much about the date stamps , its how the inner sections are joined to outer band that differs. If you look at the rear of the rim the MK1 rims seem to have 1 spot weld per quarter section , and the MK11 ones seem to have 3 rivits per quarter section.

That said from the front they should look the same.

I'll check my sets and see if I still have any odd ones. Where are you located?
