.........Is the register sure that the body numbers started at 1, and what is the earliest number known? Thanks.

I know of one below 10, one in the teens, forties, sixties & eighties.

Did you notice if the body numbers had any direct relationship to the chassis numbers Keith? I have been given two early car examples where the chassis are 232 numbers apart and the body numbers are only 71 numbers apart?

There is no correlation between build plate numbers and chassis number.

As Rick says no link - the tag number defines the sequence they came out of MS&BD Dagenham & the VIN tag is added in the PTA Dagenham when the car is assembled.
