Engine number (or not!)

I wonder if there's any one out there old enough to help?

My green Registration Book does not list my engine number.

Does anyone have their engine number listed or does anyone know why it isn't shown?

Unfortunately I do not have my original green one after a couple of house moves while it was off the road, not realising at the time that it was something to keep!
I did manage to get a photocopy of it at some time and the engine No is shown on it.

For anyone who's interested ? I sort info from DVLA & this was the reply: "The oversight could be down to the manufacturer upon registering the vehicle as this vehicle was first registered before DVLA was established". In other words " We haven't got a fu...ing clue"!

It clearly wasn't legally required so I wonder if the car was ordered and registered before the engine was fitted?

I can remember when I first removed the engine (water pump in 1970) that it seemed clear that it was the first time it had been removed.

If anyone else has any idea's I'd very much like to hear them, also if there are any other cars with this info missing?

I also wonder if the club know's how many cars do still have their green log books?

My engine # does NOT appear in the green booklet.
Chassis/VIN # is there matching the data plate attached to the inner r/h front wing.
The only place the engine # appears is on the customs papers that were generated upon arrival in Australia.
