mk1 1965 gearbox

What gearbox is fitted to an early 65 airflow a frame car ?
Would it be the same as a standard Mk1 1500GT gearbox as I have one of these complete with remote ?

I am assuming a March 65 car would NOT have any alloy parts

I am going to start another brave restoration soon but want to get most of the missing parts 1st

Cheers
Rob

Help me a little on the decode - my car is EP. Is that March?

Anyway, the only alloy part on mine is the bellhousing. I'm sure they were just using up what was left and they had more bellhousings than anything else.

EP is April 1965 - you're right about the leftovers....

The gearbox in an aeroflow A frame car is not the same as a GT. A GT box uses the same ratios as a standard mk1 cortina. Aeroflow A frame uses the same ratios as the uprated competition GT gearset in the ford book of plus performance. This gearset gets rid of the big gap between 2nd and 3rd, in the standard/GT ratios.

Would a 2000e box have the same ratios needed as I also have one of them
Can internals be swapped
Do I need alloy bellhousing then ?

I have a recently rebuilt early lotus box (verified and built by Scott)
With the very close ratios and alloy bell housing and tail shaft pm me if interested.

Cheers

2000E gearbox doesn't use exactly the same ratios, but does have a good set of ratios. Those ratios were used in leaf spring mk1 lotus cortinas. That is what I would use, as who could tell the difference when fitted to the car, using the correct 3 rail gearbox casing.

Thanks Tommy
Would this car being a March 65 have any alloy parts fitted to the box ?

Aeroflow cars didn't normally have alloy castings, although they would still have been optional. My July 65 A frame aeroflow had all iron castings, as original.
