servo to inlet manifold, 65 mk1

Is the metal tubing/pipe that connects between the top of the servo, across the front panel into the inlet manifold, only a lotus part.
I need a new one for when i sort out my engine bay,as mine at the moment is joined at the servo end by a peice of hose.

Any one got a spare,or know where i can get one.
Cheers.

Took the peice of hose off this morning, the pipe hasnt had the end cut off,is that part attatached to the servo correct,i cant shift it so i hope it is,but cant see how.

Andy, looks to me like this is the wrong way around--I think it should be on the other end with the non return valve that attaches to the inlet with the flexible hose.
Dave

Non return valve should screw out of servo valve body to allow pipe to screw in in its place. The non return valve goes there on an early type car (servo at bulkhead) and at the other end of the pipe on a later car. (servo mounted forward on inner wing) It should come out ok, as it should just be tightened down on a sealing washer. Take care if its really tight, as a friend of mine broke the 2 mounting lugs off when working at the girling servo on his volvo. If in doubt take it off the car and hold the valve body in the vice before you really start to swing on it with a spanner. Also use the correct size spanner (not an adjustable spanner or pipe wrench) to avoid slipping off. Sorry if I am teaching my granny to suck eggs, but I don't know how good you are with the spanners Andy.

Andy - lets hope this doesn't turn into one of them jobs you wish you had't started!

Dave C - Did you get the contact details from Curly for who made up his pipe for his MK11?

Looks like your right Dave,
So why would it have been done like this?,and what parts do i need to put it right.Guess the first job is to remove the non return valve from the sevo body, and check the thread, and hope as Steve says it dosent turn out that i regret ever starting
So what parts do i need?

Valve came out ok,reading back through the comments,is this an early type servo i have,or are they the same, just mounted, and connected differently?

Servo is the same. The only part you need is the pipe. The pipe male end screws in where you took out the non return valve and the non return valve (the one you screwed out) fits onto the female threaded end of the pipe. You just need a piece of servo hose ( must be servo hose as ordinary rubber hose can collapse under vacuum ) to connect the stub on the inlet manifold to the non return vavle.
Tommy

I don't think it's an early type servo from what I can see but wonder if someone has re threaded the male end to take the non return valve. If you look at the pic Phil has posted it shows the pipe the way it should be. It's quite probable this has been done as a result of the male end being a Lotus specific part specially for this application--very difficult to find if not impossible! and therefore been done like this to get round the problem.

Steve, I didn't hear from Curly!

Andy - have a look up this forum thread at PhilFFA's engine bay. It would be nice if you could get the steel pipe made up with the connections that Tommy mentions , then get a small length of rubber servo hose to connect to the cylinder head.

I know these steel pipes have been unavailable for a long while but as I said before someone got one made up for their MK11. If someone has a spare MK1 to lend me to use as a pattern I will follow up and see if they can be remade.

Thanks,Tommy,Dave .Prety sure that the servo body hasnt been re-threaded.When i got the car it had no servo,so these parts were souced in a bit of a hurry by the guys who sorted the out the mechanics on the car.
Looks like as you say Tommy all i need is the pipe with both male and female ends intact.
So anybody know of one?

Thanks Steve,.. lets see what turns up,i have all the correct period hoses and clips for the engine bay supplied by Dave C. Cars been like this for 4 years, but would be nice to get it right.

Thread on the male end of pipe is the same as that on the servo non return valve, so there would have been no need to rethread or otherwise bugger up the servo. I think all you need would be the male and female end fittings (like giant size brake unions) and the ends of the pipe are then flared like brake pipe. Might be worth a try to visit a commercial vehicle garage to see if they can bend/flare something up for you as they work with lots of airbrake and hydraulic systems on trucks.
I had one of those pipes under the bench in my garage but I sold it last year to a guy building an escort twincam. Sorry
Tommy

Might also be worth talking to Mocal as they specialize in automotive pipes, hoses and fittings for hydaulics, oil coolers, fuel systems etc used in motorsport.
