Post up some pictures so we can see what you mean by puckered and whether they look like normal. Tube is normally brazed/silver soldered into the stub axle forging. Leda used to convert ordinary cortina struts to the shorter lotus length by breaking this joint, shortening the tube and then refitting it to the forging.
