Winter project - GBP 1C resto

After having owned GBP 1C for about 9 years and doing running repairs throughout that time, I have to admit it’s looking tired, so it looks like it’s time for something a bit more major.

The last time it had a serious looking at was in the early 1990s, plus it was partially resprayed in about 1999 as far as I know, but the paintwork left a lot to be desired, as it sank in quite a few places and I was never happy with it. I did respray the engine bay in 2001, but that never matched the rest of the car and it’s since discoloured even more.

Anyway it's stripped and off to Colin (RNK) for a major - I'll add updates as I go along.

Good luck with the restoration Keith. Having already seen Colin's work, I am sure your car will be returned looking better than new.

How far are you going with it Keith? Will it be a full nut and bolt job?

And the big question - is the stripe staying or going

Now if Rick had asked that question I'd have replied "Not far from Essex...." but as it's you, it's a nut & bolt job I'm pleased to say...

It's a total strip of the paint, front wings off, shot blast of the underneath and inside followed by letting in of new steel plus some repair panels and some NOS items. Then it will be a refurb of all ancilliaries and a powder coating followed by a rebuild with as many new bits as I can find in the garage or source from the usual place.

This should then make sure all the panels line up this time and, as you say, come back better than new.

The stripe is going back on I'm afraid - I still prefer it that way.

Good luck with the restoration Keith. When do you plan to finish it? Mine took me 3 years to do, and as I have said before, the last 5% of a restoration seems to take about 90% of the time!

I hope to be done by the Spring - ever the optimist !

Now that Colin has got his hands on it I am sure it will progress quickly and you will end up with a top class job. If I wasn't up to the job of doing the restoration work on my own car, he's probably about the only bloke I would trust to do the work. I know Colin likes to ensure everything about the shell is absolutely spot on so I am sure you will be pleased with the end result.

If it's as good as RNK & the two VURs I'm sure I will be well pleased - just now though it's a bit fraught seeing it spread all over the floor

Hi Keith,

My mk2 is progressing well, I am told it is in primer and 2 months ahead of yours, I shall be keen to make sure the gap remains!!!
If he hits a snag and gets iffy buy him cake, usually works a treat.
I am returning my car back to Blue Mink.
Cheers
